Since JD's recent diagnosis of IBD, I've been doing some research on hydrolyzed protein diets (Rx foods sold through the vet for allergic dogs, such as Hill's Z/D). I learned that the process used to hydrolyze protein often results in the natural production of MSG, monosodium glutamate, which has been linked to epileptic seizures in humans.

This made me wonder if any of the dogs here who have experienced seizure disorders have ever eaten Rx foods, especially prior to the onset of their seizures?

Once again Karen, you are here with valuable information and insight. I hope this does shed some light on the use of the RX foods for those inflicted with seizure disorders and possibly save others the heartache. I will be watching this to learn as well. BTW: No seizure disorders with my too, just "crazy doodle syndrome"that I can see.

Karen -

Is it possible that the problem is more widespread.  I just saw this post in another forum:

Perhaps some of our members with animals having seizures should look into this issue.

I don't think that in this case, hydrolyzed proteins or Rx foods were involved, but it's possible that the kibble in question did contain something that triggered seizures. I believe I have also heard that rosemary and other botanicals can lower the seizure threshold, and a lot of otherwise really good quality kibbles contain rosemary and other herbs.
