Cindy, El Dorado Dog Park has fees? Per family? Per dog? It looks like a nice park, but with 3 dogs, I wouldn't be interested in going for a couple of hours on a weekend afternoon.
Thanks for the concern for Murph. He is dealing with staples, and a antibiotic that makes hime puke. So we had to change his meds. Sorry to hear that Rosie is a repeat offender. It was our first time time at Arbor and didn't really have a feel for the park. Not my intention to get someone kicked out, but we all should be aware of a dog that could hurt our buddies. @Cindy, Lori and Carly.. Funny, Murphy and Carly have played quite a bit before at El Dorado. I am finding that El Dorado is an awesome park for us.
Hey Eric, we feel your frustration and pain...our Carly had stitches after an attack at Huntington Dog Beach a few months back. Lately we've been going to the newly opened El Dorado Dog Park across from SPCALA off Spring St. in Long Beach. I'm getting involved in volunteering there in the hopes that we can keep it a safe place to bring our dogs. If anyone is interested in joining me in the effort, "like" the Friends of El Dorado Dog Park facebook page and leave a message that you are interested. We meet once a month and volunteer at least one hour per month during the busy times to support and educate the owner and their dogs.
Rosie is a giant schnauzer, and she still plays with Teddy - at least that was happening when we were there with you Jolene as well as the last time we had a romp. Rosie's owner doesn't thing HE needs to pick up after Rosie - 'nuff said as to him upholding appropriate dog park responsibility, so I guess he deserves bad mouthing. Does someone have a better park idea that is still centrally located? I don't think we should change yet, but we might begin to consider it, if there continues to be problems with dogs like Bob and Rosie. Ned was rolled by a border collie or Australian Shepherd once, but that was a long time ago.
RO, we tend avoid a lot of folks when we go. Sassy just wants to chase the ball and for the most part Josie just wants to annoy Sassy! When a pup chimes in chasing Sassys ball we usually start up a conversation or if there is another doodle we go out of our way to visit! Ü
Rosie and her owner appear to me to be regulars, they've been there everytime we've gone and we go after work 2-3 times a week in the summer evenings? They always seems to be in a big group of people/dogs. Actually Rosie was there at our last doodle romp near the end , it was her big orange ball Sassy was using to catch. How can I say this, to me her owner dresses like he's going on a safari so he's easy to spot in the park! Ü Rosie is a beautiful dog and stands out in the crowd.
Early on when I first started going Rosie and a doodle named Theodore or Teddy would play together solo but it seems like this last year, (In my opinion) Rosie has become a bully and will take down and pin dogs, I have no idea what instigates it, I only notice it when I hear it. I don't mean to come across bad mouthing anyone, I'm just calling it like I've seen it. He's kind of a gruff guy and after I insulted him asking if Rosie was a doodle mix I just avoid him outright! I was a new doodle owner so to me every adorable hairy dog was a doodle! lol
There must be someone to report it to but I've never looked into it. We are going tonight I'll take a look at the board. I know I've been there when people have been heckled to leave, usually by the regulars? We had one guy there, BIG burly guy with two greyhounds and they were horrible - definite pack aggression to mostly other big dogs. I thought there was gonna be a fight between the humans! We left because the last thing I needed was Sassy running by them to catch her ball and getting attacked! That guy was a real ass.
I'll look into and post something later after we get home.
Oh no! I am so very sorry....hopefully, the owner took responsibility?
Yes, since trying to redo all the grass, the areas are getting smaller and smaller. We had problems with a "BOB" last time we were there, but the owner at least tried to keep him at bay. Enzo appears to attract dogs, since she is so submissive and just rolls.
Jolene: Since Rosie is a known "aggressor", isn't there something that can be done. I noticed there are signs at the park about aggressive dogs.
Poor Murphy needed some Doodle backup!
Eric, How horrible for little Murphy (and you). How is Murphy doing?
I'm so sorry to hear about Murphy. We try to avoid Rosie, she's gotten more and more aggressive over the past couple years. He's not fond of me either since I insulted him calling Rosie a doodle! She's apparently a Bovier (if I remember right). I hope he's taking responsibility for his dogs actions!
Our problem is a bordie named Jax, steals your ball and never returns it. The man who brings him brings a car load and finds it funny and will do nothing to help get your dogs ball back. He leaves it up to everyone else in the park to entertain the dogs he brings in! Sassparilla has gotten kennel cough numerous times from Arbor and once advanced into pneumonia. Vet told us not to use the community balls and we haven't had a problem since?
They need to get that area open again, it's too small without it!
I hope Murphy isn't too tramatized as a result of Saturdays events.
Took Murphy to Arbor Park on Saturday. Two Staples to the shoulder and a 120.00 vet bill later..... Be aware of a dog named Rosie (black and possible doodle mix). Very unpredictable, and quick to attack a puppy.
