I looked at the video and things sound pretty serious. I hope you don't have to strike, but everyone is reluctant to make changes right now because of the financial situation in the country and the health issues. I see that your district wanted you to take on more of the health insurance costs. That's a biggie.

Kyoko, I hope a strike isn't necessary. I really understand your reluctance. My husband and I both teach in the same district. We couldn't both strike.

We may be going on strike. I know if that is necessary, we have to do it. But during the strike, we will not get paid, and my bills will not get paid.... :-(

Yes, Lynda the party not the dogs.... The title of the Auction item was "Dog Party with Mrs. Gaffney and Nimbus and Cirrus. I am not sure how much it made the school.

You must be kidding! Your dogs as an auction item for a school fund raiser??? There must be a problem with the wording here. Ahh, I get it! A "dog party with your dogs" was the auction item!

Karen I noticed the change but thought I was not observant and never noticed what the profile pic was. Now, I will enjoy your changing it. Definitely a good representative picture for our group.

About the new profile picture..... This a picture of some girls from my class last year and one of their dogs, and of course my dogs and me. I had a dog party with my dogs as an auction item for our school auction fund raiser. :)

Yes, they are the CELDT (Calif. English Language Development Test) required of all students who have another language listed on their home language survey. Our district has a training at the end of summer for anybody who will be testing, but it includes aides, retired teachers, and subs. It certainly helps to be bilingual (especially with the little kindergarteners) but all testing in done in English. The testing is done one-on-one and it helps also to have the same tester take everyone in the class so they get used to having that person come to the class and take out children. It takes a lot of time at the beginning of the year and teachers do not have the time to individually test their students. Also, where we live, over half of the students have another language (Spanish). Each tester is required to sign an affadavit to maintain security for the testing materials. I think that is about it.

Lynda, are these the tests for bilingual students - CELDT? If so, in our district they require the test administrators to be "trained" and bilingual.

Apparently California has a law that requires that all new students receive a language test within the first thirty days of enrollment. That meant that we had to test all of the kinders by September 17. I'm guessing it is the same in your district, but I have been busy with that since the first week of school. We finished testing all the kinders and 1st grade and I am now working on second grade. I did the same thing last year. Have you checked out the testing of students as a sub job?
