Thanks kathy,
I am often asked about Gravy's name!!
It was the name of Laurel n Hardy's dog and there was a whole episode about him called "Laughing Gravy " ! My daughter was a big fan when she was a little girl and always asked if she could call her puppy that when she got one!!
Well we did .....when she was 19 years old but she remembered and thereby hangs the tale of Laughing Gravy!!!
Have a great day .
Beverley

Kathy, Our school district allows therapy dogs in classrooms. The building principal has to approve the dog and it must have passed courses and a test before being certified as a therapy dog. I am planning on Mandy being trained and tested so she can be with me in my classroom. We have had therapy dogs in the library, classrooms and office. The dogs are allowed in the school/class any time, but precautions are required such as, the dog must be in good health, good oral care, have a private area to go to when they need a time out from kids, cannot ever bite someone (break skin or bruise) or they will not be allowed in a school again. And they must be over 1 year old, since Mandy is only 12 wks we have a long way to go, LOL I would check with your district and see what they require, they are great to have in the room.

I know around here that dogs have to be registered therapy dogs to be invited onto campus. I have had therapy dogs in training come to my class and the students loved it. I also had a registered therapy dog lead the Chinese New Year's Parade for the year of the dog. She was a great grand marshall for the parade. She and her handler also wore matching robes. I have a photo of another dog in her robe. See if I can find it.

Kathy, I do think some educators are taking their doodles to school on certain days or for certain classes, but I'm don't know the criteria. Maybe someone else with this experience will jump in to answer your question.

Hello,
I cant believe that there is a group out there for me!! Teaching and doodles together, my two passions.I teach adults in NHS and carry out all Induction training ,some days I think training my doodle is just a tad easier!
I hope will get to know you all and look forward to joining in discussions.
P.s my laradoodle is called Laughing Gravy and is 2 years old.

Nancy, thankyou so much! Input such as yours makes me want to keep going even when I think of quitting!
What do you think my chances would be of taking my doodle to school with me as a therapy dog? I think she'd be great in the special ed classroom. She'll be arriving in October.

Kathy - you go girl!! Just accomplishing your goal of Credential and Masters is wonderful. Even if you don't get your own classroom, you will be a teacher. - You can take the teacher out of the classroom, but you can't take teach out of teacher.
