When we moved to this house we were concerned about rodents since there is evidence of them chewing on corners of doors during the past 230 years of the house's existence so we found an antique stainless steel milk can and store dog food in it. It sits in the hall outside the kitchen door and does hold the size bag (plus) you are referring to.
We have a reproduction of a milk can, Anne, and it is wearing out because it was cheap in the first place and it has been 20 years. We don't live in your part of the country and, sadly, finding an antique milk can is not happening out here.

I use an airtight storage bin on wheels which I keep in my laundry/mud room that adjoins my kitchen. It's totally dog and rodent proof. With something like that, maybe you could keep it in a closet and not have to keep it in the cupboard?
This is similar to the one I have: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/kitchen/foodStorage/pet?productI...
We are super tight on space at the cottage so I utilize a storage/feeding all-in-one like this: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?setLocale=en-CA&produ...
Not sure if it meets your needs with two dogs, but I see petsmart has alot of different options if you search their website.
We keep ours in the bag closed with a chip clip lol :p We did use a container (not airtight) but the Acana bag is quite sturdy so we've resorted to just using that. Even by the end of the bag the food still smells fresh.
It's in the dining room on a spare chair in the corner though, so not much chance of rodents.
One of these clips (the big ones) from IKEA:
We get the big bags of Orijen and store them in a plastic container I got from Petco. I use this because I keep the food in the bag to avoid any leeching from the plastic. I think it also keeps the food fresher. The entire bag fits in the container. You cut the top down so that the lid fits securely. Of course, we can't use the pour feature because it is too heavy.
I'm not sure if this would fit in your cupboard. We keep it in the pantry freestanding. The dogs can open the lid so I stack their empty bowls on top of it. My daughter has a similar container and has to leave her tool box on top of it since her dog is very persistent about breaking into the food. I can't think what type of container would hold this much food AND fit in a cupboard.
We use the airtight Vittles Vault. You can get it on Amazon or Chewy.com. I have seen it at Petco and Petsmart.

I also use this brand, although I think the size may be smaller than the one pictured. Both our dogs eat different kibble, so I have 2, side-by-side in the lower pull-out drawer of the pantry. They fit perfectly in the drawer together. Neither holds a complete bag of food, but I just roll up the top of the bags and tape them securely shut with 2" wide masking tape. The Viddles Vaults we have hold about 2 weeks worth of food. I absolutely love them!
Another vote for the Vittles Vault. I've had our units for over 15 years now. They're absolutely indestructible & have lasted through a couple of generations of dogs & cats. Highly recommend. They keep the kibble fresh & bug free & come in various sizes. Some are even stackable. They're cheaper on Amazon than they are in the pet stores, so you might want to order from there once you decide what size you want.
