What next?  <big sigh>

Blue Buffalo’s promotion, advertising and packaging repeatedly and unequivocally state that its pet food products contain “NO Chicken/Poultry By-Product Meals.” In its complaint, Purina alleges that testing conducted by an independent laboratory revealed that several of Blue Buffalo’s top-selling “Life Protection” pet food products contained significant percentages of poultry by-product meal.

Sigh.

Whether or not this turns out to be true, I've been thinking it was only a matter of time before we have to remove BB from our list of recommended brands. They've become too big, and the advertising budget scares me, plus there has been talk of either a sale or an IPO, either of which always means lower quality for higher profits.

I think about this too. I see their ads more than any other dog food company--even Purina! In general, I'm suspicious about dog foods that seem too inexpensive for the ingredients (and marketing). For example, how can Taste of the Wild even produce a bag of USA venison and bison for under $2 a pound?! The economies of scale explanation only gets the price down so much! I don't mind Champion raising their prices because I know they aren't sacrificing quality.to keep the price low.

 Good point!!!

Sad to here this. Pretty soon there will be no company one can rely upon.

Oh dear, after I had thought I finally found a good grain-free dental bone for George. I sure hope cloud star can get their dynamo dog dental bones distributed quickly. So frustrating to think you've found something wholesome and healthy that your dog likes and then something like this happens, I JUST used the last of my zukes too.
I use Whimzees and the girls love them so I am happy if you need another option for now!

I have been wondering about this too as the commercial frequency has seemed to continue to rise. Great foods don't need TV ads.

Agreed! I have never seen one for champion foods or Fromm. They seem to be doing well with out that type of PR :)

A discussion that contains a link to BB's response to the suit has been started in the main forum. http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/nestle-purina-is-suing-blu...

Please note my response and the link I provided, lol.

I don't know what the outcome will be, but I'm glad we switched months ago to Origen.
BB must be getting too large a market share from purina. Why else would purina care, and why sue a company
For doing exactly what you're doing. Won't this bring out more bad publicity regarding purina also?
...don't let us down Origen ;-)....

Origin/Acana can't let us down. They are Canadian and we are just too darn polite to do that!! Or at least that's what I hope!!

Champion is opening a KY facility this year; I sure hope they stick to the same standards they have always had at the Canadian facilities.
