Hi, Just joined this group. What great stories!. Our GD loves water! . Can't keep her out of our pool, she even learned to climb out of the pool by the ladder in the deep end. She also knows where the steps are, perhaps because of the hand rail that is there. When she swims with our grandchildren she even "kicks"
off the sides to chase the toys and retrieve them!

Hi Nonnie glad you joined my group! When Kensi was about 4 months old I put her into the water to see how she could swim. It seems like you won't have any problems with your pup b/c he already loves the water! I would suggest if possible you getting in the water with him at first. That is what I did with Kensi then had her swim towards me while I kept slowing backing away as she got her legs going better. They are funny at first and might seem kinda panicky the first time you let them free, but he will catch on quick i'm sure!

Hi all, I have a four month old labradoodle named buddy. I also have a walk in shower without a door which is to say, I now shower with a dog every day :) LOL ! He comes out like a drowned rat every morning. I also live a block away from a private lake and we walk past it every day. How do I teach buddy to swim when the weather gets warmer? Any ideas besides the obvious - taking him down to the water and see if he gets in?

Molly is a big fan of the water too!! She just turned one, but over last summer when we 1st got her I could let her out in the morning and the dew would be on the grass from overnight and she would come inside like she stood in a downpour for an hour. I swear she had to go out and roll from one end of the yard to the other to get as wet as she would. She also sticks her head in the water bowl up to her eyes, she should have been born a fish!!

Sounds like my husbands lab he had growing up. His mom was fond of baths and she would draw herself a bath and turn her back and the lab would be in the tub. Bubbles and all. :)

Getting her in the bath is never a problem! Infact she tries to jump in all the time when I shower! That's is how I bathe her though just bring her in the shower with me, much easier and less messy lol

I LOVE it! I wish Moose and Mica were as excited about the bath tub. :)

I'm sure everyone who has a pool knows this already, but I'll put the tip out there anyway, just in case. Moose goes down the steps, but Mica is a diving dog...meaning she will go off the side after a toy rather than use the steps. If she can't find the steps once she's in, she panics and tries to climb the edge (nearly impossible). So I let her get in and then swim her towards the steps a couple times so she learns where they are from inside the pool. Hopefully this will save others out there a panic moment.
