Where's the Poodle in my Doodle?

This group is for those of us with puppies or dogs who look far more like the Golden or Labrador halves of themselves than the Poodle half. This group is for us to recognize the Poodle traits that shape our dogs while sharing experiences.

We're also fairly new to this group. It's good to hear others with similar experiences. Just the other day while walking Eddy, a lady with a purebred golden questioned me about Leo being a doodle. She said that her neighbor had a golden doodle and it looked much different than Leo and Leo looked like a standard shaggy Golden. It didn't bother me but I was surprised she couldn't see the poodle features and curls in Leo. This has happened a few times since we brought him home. I'm actually glad that these dogs can vary so much with color, coat and size.

Your Luna is a great looking dog and I'm sure she's a great pet!!

hello everyone, this is absolutely the right group for us. Just wondering how others feel when people question the breed of your dog? We love and adore our Luna but I get a little irked when people make rude comments about her looks. She is the sweetest most loving dog and I sometimes get upset when people make comments like, why is she black or why isn't her fur curly like a poodle?

Thanks!  Oakley is super cute.  I totally get what you mean by old soul.  Gunnar can be a playful puppy still, and tug at his leash sometimes but it is also just as common to have him sigh and lay down, content to hang out and relax.

Oakley looks just like the purebred golden puppy my neighbor owns.

Gunnar's mom was a standard lab-  but if I didn't know better I would say he was a golden doodle rather than a labradoodle just based on coloring and hair.

Oakley has the sweetest face.  I love his coloring. He really does look a lot like a golden.  It sounds like you and Gunnar's Dad got pups with wonderful dispositions - which in the long run is what we all wanted.

Ah, Gunner is looking awesome!  So glad to hear that he is growing into a fine young dog.

Oakley is 5 1/2 months now, 50 lbs and looks nothing like a doodle.  Not a lot of shedding going on but I'm prepared for that to change.

He too has been a fantastic puppy, loves everybody, has amazing bladder control, doesn't chew on what he's not suppose to and is calm like an old soul.

Oh my! Gunnar is so handsome.  He looks very wise.  I love his looks.

Gunnar is now 7 months old and has grown a ton.  He is 60 pounds now and combined with his nearly white muzzle and old dog looks and calm demeanor no one believes he is still a puppy.

He went from no shedding even with the straight coat to a shedding machine! We are hoping he is just losing his puppy coat and that it will at least slow down to where the vacuum and roomba can keep up with it.

His brother Tank is big and barrel chested like a lab and weighs almost 80 pounds at 7 months!  Some of the disparity may be due to Gunnar getting a 5 mile run every other day, but they are also build different.  Gunnar was the runt and Tank was the biggest.

He is a loyal and gentle dog, super good with the kids, great retriever, never bites or chews things he shouldn't  He hasn't destroyed anything yet.  Tank has chewed up the in laws shoes, rug, a wooden bench, etc.  Very different personalities.

Gunnar does like to ignore me and run to visit the neighbors and their dogs/cats in our circle, but I can't complain too much, he is otherwise the most obedient dog I have ever seen, and super relaxed, even though we haven't neutered him yet.

He is absolutely adorable! Our Finley is like that too. At first, I remember hoping she would "doodle" out, but now I'm actually so glad she didn't. She's a special pup and so sweet. Her eyes and eyebrows are so expressive and she looks like a little mini golden. She has a course strip on her back too- we just tell the groomer to keep it a little longer so it doesn't curl up and it lays flat and the rest of her is so soft and fluffy. I don't know how to add pics here but I'll post more on my page later today. Winslow is adorable!

Winslow is such a cutie!  Many, many doodles have a coarser 'stripe' down their back at one time or another.  My Ned, who is a multigenerational Australian labradoodle did. Over time it seemed to disappear.  It seems to be a doodle thing.

Oh my Doodle Malloree! Winston Is absolutely adorable! He will have an open face but he couldn't be any cuter! As far as his coat, I have Pippa who is also an F1b "mini". She currently weighs 40 lbs but is still quite a bit smaller than a standard size. She also has a coarser stripe of hair down her back however the rest of her is all fluff and soft. She looks just like a mini Golden Retriever and has the same type of coat. There are MANY photos of her on my page! I have two others of the more fluffy variety but you will be able to pick her out for sure.
