Where's the Poodle in my Doodle?

This group is for those of us with puppies or dogs who look far more like the Golden or Labrador halves of themselves than the Poodle half. This group is for us to recognize the Poodle traits that shape our dogs while sharing experiences.

JoAnne, your baby is precious! She will likely get longer and fluffier hair but not the typical mustache and beard. You can see many photos of my Pippa on my page. She is just a quirky little sweetheart with no "Doodle fluff". Enjoy her"

The poodle doesn't appear with age. She will never get the facial furnishings (beard). My dog has the same look. He is 9 months and looks like a black curly retriever with a short haired face.

At five months, we still have no poodle in our golden doodle. She's got a funky thing going on at the top of her head, we call it her pho-hawk. She also has some waves going on down her back along the spine. Has anyone have the poodle appear as the dog has aged?

We are bringing our baby girl Gwen home in 2 weeks. She is a F1 Labradoodle and was the last remaining female. She is sweet as can be but she seems to have zero wave or doodle features. Anyone else have a labradoodle who started out looking like our baby?

Hi, I'm so glad to find this group. We have 2 nine year old golden doodles that we absolutely ADORE! I have added pictures from young to 9. One from a breeder and one is a rescue from someone who gave him up because she didn't like his looks. Not doodle enough for her. Today he is PRECIOUS and has a beard, even though it is different that the typical.
It was my idea to get a puppy now because they are such a delight in our lives and have the energy to help train a new puppy.
When they were 4 days old I went to see a new litter out of a private home breeding of a 3yr old female Black poodle and a beautiful golden retriever male. I went again at 5 weeks. All of the puppies looked relatively the same, some with a bit wavier coats. She said I had to choose since I had 2nd pick.

Little Lucy was so pretty and seemed to have some longer hairs on her face just like the others at 2 weeks. They all were precious.

Between the 5th and 7th week everything changed in their coats. Lucy's coat now seems really short while the others are very long and wavy. This is Lucy at 6 weeks:

I have read about the upside down V but don't understand exactly how to find it. I don't have her home yet but I am shocked and need advice. I have seen some of the videos of smooth haired golden doodles with no beard, they don't even resemble golden doodles to me.
Today she is 7 weeks.
She has our hearts in full but I wanted to see if anyone could help me understand what to expect. Is she going to have that golden doodle beard? She has the sweetest eyes...
