Welcome Jordean/Bevo.  I had a whole long post ready for you on the 5th when you posted and something wacky happened and I lost it.  I was on m way out and didn't have time to redo it!!  We have Izzy.  She was born 12/26/09 to Sarah and Toby.  She is the love our our life!  Hope you are adjusting to a new puppy.  One of the comments I had planned to send was to let your son know that the puppy will hurt him but not at all on purpose.  We had to put a German Shorthair down a few months prior to getting Izzy.  My 7 yr. old at the time was and still does hurt from that loss.  She would get particularly upset when Izzy would bit with her her sharp puppy teeth or jump on her and hurt her.  She would cry and say she missed Maggie and Maggie would never do that to her.  She wasn't born yet when we got Maggie so didn't remember the puppy stage.

Bevo, named after the University of Texas longhorn mascot, has been with us a week and has been a wonderful addition! She was born December 10, 2011 and her parents are Brandi and Rusty. It was a larger litter and wondering if any of their new families have looked at this site. If so, please contact us... We'd love to hear from you!

We are getting our new little girl from WPK this next week and are thrilled.  I've read the posts here and am wondering if you have any additional advice for the first few weeks she's with us...

Seasonal allergies can be a pretty big deal--if that is indeed what your dog has.  If you search DK for "allergies" you'll find a lot of info Vicki.

Vicki, I don't notice itching or licking.  I wondered if she had them because there are times when her nose really runs and she is constantly catching the drip with her tongue.

Hi

I was just wondering if any of your doodles have some seasonal allergies? If so, what have you done for them?  Gunner has been itching and licking like crazy the last week.  I think it's highly unlikely that it's fleas 9 (yikes!) since he gets tick and flea meds. monthly.

Hi Christi, I would have to agree!  Glad to see it is normal for them to spazz when someone comes through the door.  Izzy is such a lover too.  She doesn't know she is a dog.  She love to sit on my hip like a child.  I blame my oldest for her going so crazy as when she comes through the door she squeels Izzy's name and gets her doing hot laps.  I finally have her calm when I come home.  Makes me feel not as loved but I needed to know it could be cured.  She knows that if she does not jump on me she gets a milkbone.  Funny the way she communicates.  As I cook dinner she will come up behind me and bark until I turn and look.  As soon as she gets my eye contact she looks at the box of treats on top of the fridge, then at me, then back at the treats until she gets one or I tell her no, she's had enough.

Hi everyone!

I just found you guys and I'm excited to keep in touch!  Our dog is Max.  We brought him home this past September.  He is an F1b and his parents are Thad and MaryAnn.  He's a RIOT!!!!  We laugh all the time at him.  He's the sweetest thing, but also the biggest spazz!!!  Oh my.... he loves to get into things...trying to chew whatever he can.  The biggest thing I'm trying to work on with him right now is to remain calm when he meets new people.  My gosh he gets so excited!!!

We are in LOVE with this puppy of ours and can't wait to hear from you guys and swap stories, successes and training tips!  I'll try and add a picture of him soon!

Very excited today when I found this site.  Izzy is a Whispering Pines Kennel graduate and I can't wait to share our pictures and stories!

Julie, Keep using the crate. It will get better eventually. Gunner cried for about a week and a half. Then he would wake up and need to go outside, but go right back to his kennel and go to sleep without crying. It's hard, but well worth it. I felt like I had a newborn baby in the house for awhile. We love him dearly and he is great with kids!
