About Me:
I'm a retired elementary teacher. My husband, Greg, is semi-retired and works as a part time Handyman for a small real estate firm. We lost our lab of 14 years, Rosie, in July. Greg has allergies and we thought it would be fun for our next animal buddy to be a Labradoodle. Fortunately we found an incredible breeder and are now 3rd pick for the amazing litter of Kirby and Ginger. We're already crazy excited, and simply can't wait for the next weeks to roll by. We're making our selection on February 20th and will be bringing her home on March 14th.... Why not help us select? Go to Maila's website and watch the puppies as she posts picture updates every Friday. Let us know your favorite!!!

Sigh...

Posted on February 13, 2010 at 8:32pm 5 Comments

Just got the five week pictures tonight, and pups had been freshly bathed. They are all just beeautiful little creatures. I have no idea how we are going to make this decision.

The breeder indicated that three of the nine have wool coats. The others have fleece. Is there any difference from an allergy standpoint? I've posted the pics of the three wool coated puppies. They will knock your socks off...

Anticipation II

Posted on February 13, 2010 at 10:37am 6 Comments

Next weekend we visit the breeder to pick out our pup. I think at this point, 'anticipation' is an understatement. We're actually in pain with excitement. The latest?? We had been waiting all week - day after day after day - for last night's pics of the litter, along with growth information that the…

Crate this!!

Posted on February 4, 2010 at 7:00pm 12 Comments

The great crate debate... Here we are anticipating this new puppy in our little town home south of Denver. In one of the 30 or 40 questions I ask the breeder, I try to figure out what kind of crate to buy. She initially crate trains the puppies and highly recommends that we follow through with crate training when we get home.

Now I've never done this before...we always just house trained our dogs by taking them out frequently and leaving lots of newspapers around…

You bet I'll be there!!! I am glad you like her name JOIA fits her I think:) She is doing wonderful, is totally housebroken except for an occasional accident (not one in 5 days YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!) She is HUGE !!! She gained 10 pounds in 32 days. Thought I might rename her ZENA the WARRIOR PRINCESS!!!! They all look alike but then not really. Joia seems to REALLY look like her mom except her eys are more like Kirby's I think though brown. I am adding a couple of pic's tonight (I hope I can anyway) Can't wait to see all the sibs !!!!!

Oh boy, it's almost time. I'll bet you guys are getting so excited. I had labs also, before I decided to "downsize" to a mini ALD. Amber is gorgeous, just the color both my labs were. Now Sheila is a goldish color also. I've had Sheila home for two and a half weeks now and she's already totally taking over. She is just so darned cute. Well, off to bed for me. Sheila gets up at 6:15 AM needing to go out! Brrr.

Hi Paula and Greg! You asked if Lucy has always watched TV and if she has any favorite shows... well, she HAS always watched TV and she prefers shows with dogs in them, of course! We have a puppy training video and she was really taken with the woman's voice giving positive reinforcement.. she thinks SHE is getting the praise!

Lucy is a standard F1B labradoodle (3/4 standard poodle, 1/4 lab). What kind of labradoodle are you getting? Have you decided on which pup yet? They are all so cute! We had 1st pick of the litter, and chose a male pup at 3 weeks, but when we went back to visit at 5 weeks most all the pups had been spoken for, except Lucy, who really stole my heart! So, we changed our choice right then and there! Its funny how things work out!

How exciting this must be for you! I liked Miss Orange (as I said before) because of her cute black nose.

It looks just like our Thomas's nose did and his has stayed black. He was a big pup though...looks like Miss Orange is much more petite. You won't be sorry...I have had three dogs in my life and this doodle of ours is the nicest dog. He has a gentle, kind manner about him. He was a bit of a terror from about 4 to 7 months but he has settled down to be a fun, energetic sweet natured boy and he makes us laugh constantly. I hope you get the puppy I mentioned but if you don't; honestly they are all just adorable. We had first choice in a litter of 10. We asked the breeder to pick out two males for us that would have a curly/fleecy non shed coat. The pup we picked was Thomas and we chose him because he was so chubby and also because he licked my son right in the face as he was holding him up for me to look at . That did it for us...the rest is history but I keep wishing that I took both of the pups home. Let me know which one you get!!

You have quite a task in front of you... I know it's not easy!!! We had to choose long distance, second guessed myself so often, but things have a way of working out just as they are supposed to. Follow your heart! Good luck! Welcome to Doodlekisses. I look forward seeing your new pup and following you as you share your special pup with us!!!
