Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Next weekend we visit the breeder to pick out our pup. I think at this point, 'anticipation' is an understatement. We're actually in pain with excitement. The latest?? We had been waiting all week - day after day after day - for last night's pics of the litter, along with growth information that the breeder has consistantly provided. This week, she also indicated that she whould include coat information. Since we're looking for a coat on the wooly side, this post would finally help us narrow the field a bit.

Since we're third pick, and we know that first pick wants a male, we're trying hard to narrow down choices to three or four of our favorites. If the second pick chooses from one of the seven females, and if the unchosen male has a wooly coat, we'd really be interested. But we also like a couple of the females. Decisions, decisions, and we have yet to actually meet the pups. Who knows what kind of variables will be thrown in the mix at that point. But coat is top priority, so this Friday's post was important.

We had also come up with an initial solution to the crate issue. We borrowed our son's 36' hard sided crate, and found a place that we think would work in the den. We're getting a liner and pad for it today. We covered it with a throw. Paula thinks that we can fill up the back of the crate with pillows and blankets, so the puppy will feel more secure at the beginning. A nice pad and blanket and some toys will hopefully work for the youngster. We hope this works. We really are getting used to this huge plastic thing in the den, really...

So, we're watching the opening of the Olympics, checking email every commercial break, looking for the puppy pics and info. Our anticipation is high, tonight's the night we'll finally see the five week pics with coat information. We watch and wait, watch and wait. Finally, about 8:45, a note appears in the Puppies folder... Jubilation!!! Joy!!! Pictures!!! I open the note...

"I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be posting puppy updates until Sunday."

Aaaaaargh!!!!!! Two more days!!!!! Will the waiting never end!!!!

OK, I know there is more going on in the world that is vastly more important than our choice of puppy. I mean, I really know that.... Just think of the guy who was responsible for that fourth arm of the Olympic torch in Vancouver... :-)

But will the waiting never end!!!!!!!

Coat aside, have you thought about personalities? Good breeders seem very adapt at identifing the traits of each dog. Given the choice between a calm, sweet, playful fleece coated pup and an overly active, nipping, fearful, or overly shy wool pup, which would you decide on? Sounds like you have several choices tho, being only # 3 to decide. How many in the litter? And yes the waiting is excruciating!!!! Keep us posted on which one you choose please.

Take a look at these crates on Orvis.com. They are like end tables that are dog crates. Just a heads up on all the pillows and blankets in the crate, our girls would pull everything out of the crate down to the hard plastic liner because the crate pad made it hotter ..... they wanted the cool plastic liner.

Oh yeah, the waiting is awful. Just keep looking at the previous pictures over and over until new ones arrive. It helped me.

I know how you feel! I did tons and tons of research to help subdue my "excitement pains" ha ha. I can't wait to see what pup you choose! Are you thinking of any names?

I can feel your pain! When we were waiting for Achilles it was pure torture. Keep an open mind personality plays a big part! My husband and I feel that Achilles picked us!
