- About Me:
- I'm Rachel. I'm from a small town in West Virginia. In 08 I graduated with an Associate's in American Sign Language Communications/Interpreting; now I'm currently back and pursuing my English Education degree. I'm pretty sure I'll be in school forever.
Gatsby is my labradoodle; I got him from the shelter. He and three of his brothers were the last 10 puppies. After watching the pups interact, I couldn't discern any major personality differences, so I based my decision on fluff. I picked the fluffiest puppy of the bunch.
His fluff growing into shaggy hair, and I'm beginning to realize
he's a bit devious as well as being a knuckle-head.
He ate a hole into our carpet. I'm a girl; I can't fix that kind of thing. I tried. It looks ridiculous.
Other than the carpet and stealing my socks, he's really a sweet dog. I love him.
- What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
- Gatsby (the Great) is my 5 month old black labradoodle. I got him from the animal shelter at 7 weeks old. He's an adorable, obnoxious, unruly knuckle-head, but I love the little guy.
- Where did you get your doodle(s)?

- Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
- I didn't go into the animal shelter with any specific breed in mind. I saw young Gatsby and his brothers, and he yelled at me: "Pick me! I'm FLUFFY!" So, I did.
- What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
- Snuggle. Oh, wait, he doesn't like to snuggle. Brush his hair. Wait, he doesn't like that either. Fetch? Nah, he never brings it back. Umm...he doesn't like the pool. Walks? He's pretty much afraid of everything. So, I guess we sit on the porch a lot and people watch. With his changing voice and all that, he could pretend to be ferocious, but he's too afraid someone is going to call his bluff.

- A little bit but nothing major

- Favorite Doodle Products?
- Squeaker toys, because I just LOVE hearing those in the middle of the night. KONG toys with the holes to hide treats - definitely makes crating easier. For about five minutes. But I can get out of the house within that time. ;)

Mom hasn't been able to take me to the Dog Park. And we've only been on one walk, which makes me sad. Lots of car rides, though. I think Mom tries to make up for the no Dogy Park and no walks.

The past couple of days have been nice, though I spent more time in the crate than usual. I'm starting to like it now that I'm bigger, and Mom took out the blanket that makes me hot. It's a stupid blanket with funny looking things that Mom calls penguins. I'd drag it out of the crate and pee on it. I think she got the message.

Today was beautiful. Sunny but nice and cool, which is really nice since my fur is black. Mom says I'm not going to like Florida when we move there. So why are we?

Was it you who wrote about shedding last week with your doodle? I think it was. I am also a student and am very busy this time of year so I was not able to respond. Starlit, my 2nd doodle was surrendered possibly because she shed---well she did! A HUGE amount. So much that everything for 2 months was covered in more hair than my real labs. It stopped --completely around 6 months. Starlit was NOT the norm. I had been a member a long time and had read about shedding but not this early and not this much. Just an FYI--I started a group about shedding doodles at the time. Funny, she NO longer sheds. Many doodles do, but sometimes it is just the puppy coat Flying Off in mass.
WV. has a great communication school. Many of your grads do graduate work up in my area of The University of Akron and Kent State in Ohio.

This is a great place to share about doodles. There are many groups that you can join. For example, there are groups for grooming, nutrition, health/medical, types of doodles, puppy groups etc. Look at the top of your page and click on Groups - check them out. Enjoy!
