Profile Information

About Me:
I am the mother of four: Three two legged babies, ages 16, 3, and 2, and one very sweet, gentle four-legged furkid, whom we all adore so very much.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
We have just one Goldendoodle. Her name is Bella and she is four years old. We have no other pets and Bella gets all our attention! She was diagnosed November 2012 with multicentric lymphoma and we are doing everything we can to help her battle this awful disease.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I love the gentleness and loyalty of a Golden Retriever but the combination with the poodle making them less shedding is what drew me to a Goldendoodle. She certainly sheds much less than a full blooded Golden Retriever! ...Until now, due to chemotherapy :(
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Running outdoors, playing ball in the yard, chasing each other, & playing hide and seek. She loves winter and playing in the snow too!
Does your doodle(s) shed?
A little bit but nothing major
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
A local professional groomer since she turned one year. Prior to that, we groomed her ourselves but she became too big to handle. She is 64 pounds now.
Favorite Doodle Products?
Now that Bella has cancer, I have learned so much about diet and supplements. I will never feed another dog I own anything but a grain-free diet!
Relationship Status:
Married

Bella's Battle is Over

Posted on May 3, 2013 at 7:00pm 34 Comments

It is with great sadness I am posting about the loss of our sweet doodle girl, Bella. She had developed and abscess and colitis in the last week and was battling those infections, all the while the cancer became very aggressive and spread into her spleen. We had to make the decision to help her cross the rainbow bridge this evening. It was the most difficult decision I have ever had to make. It was even more difficult to walk through the door and see all of her "things". My little ones (ages…

Update on Bella's cancer battle

Posted on April 17, 2013 at 7:15am 43 Comments

It's been awhile since I've posted. We have been trying to enjoy each day to the fullest, as we know they are numbered. Bella's nodes are still enlarged despite changing drug protocols. They have actually gotten larger (in her neck) and this "doodle mum" is very scared. I am waiting to speak to the oncologist to decide what, if any, steps we can take next. The decision of more, possibly harsher drugs vs. quality of life over quantity is always very difficult. I guess I just ask for (and greatly… Continue

Bella's lymphoma battle

Posted on March 22, 2013 at 10:06pm 33 Comments

It has been an emotional evening.  Just found out at Bella's appointment today that she has lost remission.  Her submandibular and prescapular lymph nodes are again enlarged.  We did not rush into a rescue protocol.  However, instead of Vincristine, Bella received Doxyrubicin, the most potent drug in her current protocol.  Please pray that my furgirl responds to this well.  I'm so very scared for her.  I have also asked to be referred for a second opinion at another veterinary hospital in…

Bella, our Goldendoodle, 4 months past diagnosis of multicentric lymphoma

Posted on March 20, 2013 at 7:18pm 19 Comments

3/19/13

Bella is currently having a good day.  She has received 10 chemotherapy treatments (on the Madison Wisconsin protocol).  She has had many ups and downs with GI side effects post treatments including vomiting and days of not eating.  She will receive her 11th treatment (Vincristine) this Friday (3/21/13).

I understand completely! It can be rough explaining something like that to little ones. And the problem is, they will usually ask again and again. I have a 24 year old daughter who just simply refuses to love and accept Daphne because she feels such loyalty to our beloved Golden Retriever that died of cancer last year. She was 13 years old. It probably would have been easier for her to accept a new dog after a period of time. I however, really needed to fill up the gaping hole in my heart. I hated that  "empty" house feeling you get when you walk in the front door and there is no wiggly dog to greet you. I hope that you will reconsider. These Doodles are awesome and it is unusual for them to go so soon.  They give so much love!

When you are ready, think of Bella and how happy she would be to see her people happy again!  I think of you often and will keep you in my prayers.

Hugs to you all....Lori

Hi Shari, just checking on you to see how you're doing? I know it can be really tough those first months after a loss. Thinking of you and your family!

I know there are lots and lots of people who want to add their condolences on your blog post but can't as for them it is showing that comments are closed. If you don't wish any comments they will all understand and respect your wishes but if there is some gremlin in the works then perhaps you can remove it?  Many thanks, Nx

So very very sad to read that Bella lost her fight. You did the very best for her and made what must be the ultimate kindest decision. You will never forget her and the love she brought. I'm hoping that time will help you heal. In the meantime we are sending you good thoughts and Doodle hugs from Ireland.

I'm very glad that you have come here to DK as there are others who have gone through what you are in the middle of with your darling Bella.  All of us here adore our Doodles and understand fully when any of them are not well how truly heart wrenching it is for their loved ones.  I hope we can be of some support to you as you help Bella and I will be adding her to my daily prayers for a full recovery from this illness and wish her well on that challenging journey.
