When I was a kid, and I got to stay home from school because I was sick, it wasn't such a bad thing.  My mom would dote on me all day long from my vantage point on the sofa plopped in front of the TV.  If it was a Wednesday, my dad would be home too, so the house always had an energy about it.



Yesterday I stayed home sick from school, and it was quite the different experience.  I felt like it was a big, inconvenient break…

A Wednesday post...?  How peculiar.  Yes, yesterday I missed my standard Tuesday posting because I had 95 research reports sitting on my chest.  They were weighing on my shoulders, hanging over my head, and directly in front of my eyes.  Am I now completely finished with grading those papers?  No, you always have those few outliers - late papers, waiting to print, and carefully tucked away somewhere.  Will I get them all read?  Yes, of course, however, it is just…

Jeff, Milt, and I are a happy trio who all co-exist in the same bedroom.  Jeff and I take the bed, and up until December, Milton was always in his crate.  Now, he is crateless, and I think loving it...  One of the main reasons for having a crate, though, is to create that den-like atmosphere where a dog feels cozy and secure.  Something tells me that Milt might be missing it for that reason.…

When Jeff and I were looking for a house, I was very adamant that I wanted a pool.  I grew up on a lake, swimming whenever it was hot, and now living in a state where temperatures peak in the low 100s, I was emphatic that a pool was a necessity.  There were an awful lot of naysayers who said that a swimming pool would be full of maintenance, too costly, and a detriment when we finally want to sell and move on.  I tuned out all the Negative Nellies and kept on…

Jeff just couldn't take it anymore.  The boy we love more than anything was looking a little too much like a mop to him.  Jeff thought all that fur was weighing him down much too much, and to quote him, "Milt was looking like a 'saggy pants' everytime he went to go catch the ball; it was like his britches were about to fall down."  So, that was that - a haircut was decided upon. 



Thankfully, I managed to hold Jeff off…

Recall the famous idiom - "When the cat's away, the mice will play."  In my situation, that translates to, "When Jeff's at yet another bachelor party in New Orleans, Momma lets Milton get away with things."…

Let me tell you.  That Milt is one heck of a lucky boy!  At his party, we figured that one or two people might arrive with gifts to give our goldendoodle.  Well, turns out our friends have a true knack for purchasing puppy gifts galore.  Our boy certainly has an awful lot of new toys to play with for months and months to come.…

One thing I was adamant about regarding Milton's party invitation was a start and end time for the party, 1:00P.M. - 4:00P.M.  If you know me, I like to arrive to events late, as late as politely possible, and leave early, as early as politely possible.  I love having friends, but I can only flit around like a social butterfly for a brief period before I start to descend!

Let's just say that Milton's birthday party was the very first party that we have ever thrown, other than our wedding!  Neither Jeff nor I was prepared for all the work that goes along with putting on a party.  When I was stressed out, people would remark, "Why are you so nervous?  It is just a party for dogs."  Well, of course, it was a party for dogs, but those dogs didn't just walk here on there own; they came with all their human friends! …

First of all, Jeff and I are not major music connoisseurs...  I listen to what is "hot" on the radio, and Jeff, quite frankly, I don't know what he likes.  We're easy.  For Milton's first birthday party, I knew we just had to have the "right" music - a doggie playlist.  I scoured the Internet to find the best tunes that would just scream doggie bash.  Here is what I came up with:

Yesterday, April 7th, was the big day for Milton!  Our goldendoodle is now officially one-year-old!  I woke up on the morning of Milt's birthday just a little bit sad that our teeny tiny puppy is now a massive 62-lb. dog.  Life flies.  Jeff and I were incredibly thrilled to celebrate Milton's birthday (Doodle Palooza!) with some of our closest friends, 24 humans and 13 dogs!…

Our Milton has spent time away from home at both Downtown Dog (his daycare) and at Momeaux and Pop's house over the holidays.  This past week though, Jeff and I spent a few days with my family in Florida for Easter, and the Milt was packed up to his good buddy Hops's house for his first doggie friend sleepover.  It was an all-day, all-night bash for those too!



Hops is the lovable Aussiedoodle of my very good friend, Thuy. …

In less than a week, Milton turns one-years-old!  It is hard to believe.  When Milt dog was a young pup, he was always the first to rough and tumble with another dog no matter how big or small the other guy was!  I loved how wild Milton was about other canines and how he was just so darn social.  …

One of my favorite parts about planning this birthday party has been the invitation piece.  Originally I thought to order invites with a cute shot of Milton from Snapfish or Shutterfly.  Simple, right?  It just was not the most unique of ideas.  Then I got into cahoots with Jeff's wonderful cousin, Lily, who recently moved into the area and is incredibly talented with her Stampin' Up! business.  I told her the basics of my vision for an invite, and she quickly mocked up and sent over a…

The Milt dog gets bathed on a fairly regular basis; we are on a schedule of probably about once every two weeks or as needed.  We are currently washing Milton in our guest bathroom, but that appears to be wreaking havoc on our plumbing.  Dirt just seems to slide off our doodle.



This picture was taken immediately following a bath last week.  After toweling Milton off and toweling the entire bathroom down, Milt still likes to do a little drying on his own.  He pawed our hallway rug…
