When Milton and I left for New York, Jeff explicitly stated, "My dog better not come home with any bad habits."  See, Jeff has trouble saying our dog, and he thinks my discipline skills are sorely lacking.  I concede; he could be right.

While away, I stupidly allowed Milton to climb up on my good friend, Anny's, futon while we watched a movie.  The Milt was all sweet, cute, and cuddly, but a bad habit was brewing.  If you all recall, Jeff and I have a strict rule that no Miltons are allowed on the furniture.  In my defense, this was not our furniture but someone else'sfurniture.  Obviously, this would never correspond to the Milt climbing up on our couch, recliner, etc.  I was dead wrong.

Naughty Milton

Later that week, I caught Milton in the act at my mom's house.  I walked into the living room, and there he was on top of the sofa all sprawled out, wagging his tail with a big doggie grin on his face (see the above picture).  Now we are back home in Dallas, and we are really hoping that Milton will leave this undesirable penchant for furniture up North.  Well, this morning, we spied the Milt atop our leather couch, so he might need a little help kicking the addiction.  Don't worry; we'll help him through this every step of the way.

Tigger and Roo have hearts of gold! ;o)

Roo and Tigger have graciously allowed us to share all the furniure, which I think is pretty nice of them.  They even let us share the big bed, we must take up only a very small amount of space though, as they need to stretch out after a hard day of taking care of us an everyone who enters their territory.  They are really thoughtful dogs.

@Pat... big belly laugh about the no dogs on the countertops comment! Thanks for that! ;o)

Milton looks sooo proud of himself!  I'm at the 'no dogs on the countertops' stage.  Hope to stay firm on this one!

I never started with the no dogs on the furniture rule and they take full advantage of anything especially comfortable.

LOL - I had those exact intentions and after about 6 months my Sasha was a snuggle bug with me on the couch.  Then Oliver came along... he is not much of a couch dog (thank God) but ever once in a while I do catch him on the couch and when he sees me he jumps off.

I think 75% of doodle owners start with that rule and 74% of them concede....my Daisy doesn't care to be on it but I if she wants to she can!

I think it may be easier to "train" the DH!

Before Haley we were a no dogs on the furniture family. Haley changed that quickly. He insisted that doodles are supposed to get on the furniture. I did get a very nice gate to put on the doorway to the living room to keep him off the antique sofas and not have to keep the door closed (we don't use the living roomon a daily basis).

Milton is adorable and your blogs are so fun to read! Thanks for posting.

We were a "no dogs on the furniture" family for many years (before doodles)... not sure what happened. ;o)

We too said no dog on the furniture. Then the futon was ok. Then the couch. Then the bed.

Cooper gets hot quickly so doesnt sleep on the bed, just hops on for a quick snuggle. We have an older couch with a throw on it for when she sleeps there (usually just when shes really tired)
