Smita, Ollie and Juno's Blog (18)

Juno is 10 weeks old now.

My fur babies are so cute together. Ollie is really patient with her and a concerned big brother. Today when Juno got her paw stuck in the crate and yelped, he came running and sat by her when I was comforting her. He still gets annoyed at times with her puppy enthusiasm but they are learning to be together. He does steal all her toys and stashes them away in his corner but he does so very politely and quietly when she is not looking. No snatching or growling from my darling Ollie. She on…

Feels like old times.

Hello all! I am back after a 3 1/2 year hiatus from Doodle Kisses. We just added a new little Labradoodle pup to our family. We are in love with the new puppy. This one is a girl and adorable as can be. We call her Juniper aka Juno. Our older pup Oliver aka Ollie is a great big brother and has been very patient and sweet. A little about Juno...She is 9 weeks old and shares her birthday with my dad. :-) She is a medium and a beautiful Caramel color. A lovely contrast from our Chocolate doodle…

My furry boy is 1 year old.

Yesterday was Ollie's first birthday. Can't believe we've had him for 10 months. He has been such a joy to be around. He has brought us many, many smiles and giggles in the time we've had him. I am so proud of my boy. He is calm and well behaved with just the right amount of puppy enthusiasm and mischief. If I had designed a dog, it couldn't have been better than what we got.

We are lucky to have you my furry baby...may you live a long and healthy life and keep bringing us those…

Oh where, oh where has my fluffy dog gone?

So, yesterday on his walk, Ollie decided that a dead animal on the road would be fun to roll into. Had to take him in for a bath at the local self service dog wash. Everything changes at bath time. My spunky, happy little doodle boy disappears and is replaced by a whimpering, simpering, long-suffering dog who acts like he is on his way to a torture chamber. He also looks completely different. he looks black instead of brown and skinny :-) Here is the proof...

Luckily his attitude…

My freshly laundered doodle!

Ollie had his first ever professional grooming yesterday at Petsmart. I was a little apprehensive because I've heard it can go either way in those places. I told the groomer that I did not want him short and no shaving nose/muzzle area.

The groomer was really friendly and sweet and did a wonderful job. She was very sensitive to the fact that it was his first time ever at a groomer. He came out looking handsome and clean and happy. I can actually see his beautiful eyes now.

He…

Crazy coincidence!!

It is a spectacular 75°F day here. We were driving to our local farmer's market when from the car I spotted a puppy exactly like Ollie. We stopped the car in the middle of the street and met the other shocked owner. It turns out that it is Ollie's sister who lives in the same town as us. They look so similar that it is crazy to see :-). We and the other owners were thrilled too! The puppies started playing right away and the girl puppy's owners were very friendly and nice so we've planned to…

'R' rated blog post!!

A question that I have as a dog 'first timer' is this....What is up with Ollie humping his stuffed dog? He has been doing this since we got him home. Is it a dominance thing? Is this common behavior? He does it only to this one stuffed dog named "fluffy". A high energy play time seems to send him into that humping mode. Is it a stress reliever of sorts? It is quite funny for us to watch but we hide the toy when we have company to prevent embarrassment! My 5 and 9 year old daughters call it…

Ollie the cow-doodle!

He does not retrieve and he eats grass!

We finally started taking Ollie out since he is done with most of his shots and the vet gave him a go ahead. He absolutely loves going to the park. After our walk, he gets zoomies on steroids and then flops down and eats grass!! What is with that? No complaints though. He walks really well unless he sees other dogs or people. Then he goes crazy with excitement...wagging his tail like a maniac and jumping like a pogo stick. We are…

Oliver...my sweet boy!

Ollie has come a long way from his biting and growling. He is now 14 weeks old. He almost never growls or bites anymore. He listens to instructions well and is doing really well with training.(though I know there are likely to be rebellious periods during his teen years.) He is also potty trained now and has had no accidents in the last 2/3 weeks. He tells us he needs to go by scratching at the door and a soft woof. All in all a real joy to have around and a happy and secure little guy.

The… Continue

Little ink splotches!

Ollie loves everybody. This was his first introduction to our neighbor's (very friendly) cat. He just wants to play with her. She on the other hand, looks at him like he is a pesky little boy. She is really very sweet so apart from a little swat with no claws she puts up with his sniffy little face. This was the first time so I kept the door closed. They are both so dark that on a phone camera they just look like ink splotches,…

I'm in love!!

It has been a week since my last update and I have to say...I'm in love!!! Oliver is turning out to be the biggest sweetheart doodle. No more growling when picked up! Seems like it was insecurity on his part about getting to know us. He loves people, other dogs, cats and basically everybody. He is also our dining area vacuum cleaner. he goes on sniffing expeditions under the table to look for crumbs that I may have missed cleaning after the kids' dinner. He gives the sweetest kisses (or… Continue

Ollie gives a whole new meaning to 'Putting yourself in someone else's shoes'!!

Ollie loves socks and shoes! Are there any doodles that don't? :-)

We have been having good times and trying times. This is one of those times that he is clowning about and entertaining us. He has also learned to roll over (as long as there is a treat involved!)

I'm still not reading him perfectly and still find his moods kind of unpredictable but I am learning a…

My sweet Ollie!

Anybody who saw my desperate post yesterday about Ollie's growling and nipping knows how upset I was. Today is a new day.I am definitely reading him better. He tried the growling thing again today. I stopped everything and then walked away and sat at my computer. He tried nipping at my toes a few times. Then he realized that I was ignoring him. He calmed down right away and lay down by my feet and even licked my toes. May be my being worked up yesterday keyed him up. They read us better than… Continue

Spunky doodle!

Ollie is quite the spunky doodle today. The name the breeder gave him is perfect for him during the day. He is 'Valiant' during the day and curious about everything. Nothing really scares him.He even does well in his crate when I go out without him. At night however, his bravado disappears and he is a whiny little baby who needs his human mom/dad. He is still whining and screaming his head off in the crate at night. I know all the experienced people here are saying this is normal but it is…

Ollie boy's night-time adventures!

First of all, Ollie and I thank all of you for extending such a warm welcome.

Ollie's first night was quite an adventure after a fairly uneventful day. We decided to use the airline type crate even though we have the wire crate set up, just because it was easier to carry it to our bedroom. And boy-oh-boy, our little fella did not appreciate it. He would sleep for about 40 minuted and start whining. We must've taken him outside, a million times, thinking he wanted to go potty. But he would… Continue

Oliver is home!

Finally after waiting for months and months, our little Ollie is home. We are ecstatic. He is the most affectionate little fella. Lots of kisses and great eye contact. He has the most gorgeous chocolate coat with gray green eyes. The breeder lives a good hour away so I was wondering how he would do on the ride home. After a couple of little whines and a lot of sniffing at my face and the car cup holder, he settled down and had a nice long snooze. Occasionally he would wake up and stand on my… Continue
