Our newest addition has arrived and her name is Brooke. We were a bit nervous and unsure of how Sophie would take to her, but everything is going great!! We had a feeling things would go alright because her original owner had her daughter and grandkids living with her, plus Sophie had been around our friend's kids and our nice and did well.
At first she was jelous from time to time when we would pay lots of attention to Brooke and talk to her, but now it doesn't even phase her…

Sophie is very curious and thinks that every living creature is alive for her to play with. I had found a couple bees today crawling around in search for warmth. I got rid of them and didn't think much of it. Of course, Sophie saw a bee crawling along the door jam, and was extremely curious. I look over to her snififng around near the sliding glass door, at this point I wasn't really paying attention. Next think I know my dog is freaking out, pawing at her nose and then there is a bee flung to…

First, the good: Sophie's kidney function is within "normal", so she does not have kidney failure at this time. This makes it very likely that she will survive this disease. Rarely do they develope kidney failure if it wasn't present when treatment was initiated. I nearly cried when the vet called me at work to tell me the good news.. a bit emotional with everything, but it still felt good to know my girl is not too bad off at this point.
Now for the bad: She has blood…

Lyme disease. Who knew!
Since January, I have been paranoid about her eating. Jan/Feb we had some difficulty getting her to eat ENOUGH.. or so I thought. I was really nervous she was loosing weight. Everyone told me it was all of the adjusting to a new home and new eyesight after eye surgery. When I brought her into the vet in March her weight was close to what was listed in some of her previous health records. That helped to ease my mind. The vet thought that all of the changes and…

Here are some pics of Sophie's new haircut.. It's brand new.. still extremely fluffy.. Beautiful pink bows if I do say so myself.. I usually have her cut a bit short and let her grow out really long between cuts. She'd look a bit more doodle like if I sprayed…

Don and I sent in the papers to finalize the adoption. Sophie is now a official member of the Kiserow Family. Thanks to everyone for all of the support! Sophie's medical expenses were paid for including her very last follow up that will be in June! We love our girl and are happy to have been introduced to such a wonderful group of people. She has truly brought JOY into our life!
Don and I may continue to foster for Second Chance Rescue, though Don told me last night he is afraid we…

Today was Sophie's follow up apointment with the Opthamologist. The Dr. said that everthing looks good. he said that the redness in her eyes will come and go for about another month but should be completly gone in about a month or so. The scars that are slightly visible will fade. She only needs one type of eye drop twice a day instead of two different ones 4xper day.. which is soooo nice. Great news is that I can bring her around other dogs and she is free to play however she chooses.…

Hello friends! This is a long one....
I sit here with a ball of fluff lying next to me. I apologize for not writing sooner. It has been a busy three weeks for us.
It's a wonderful life for Sophie girl! Seven weeks ago Don and I brought home Sophie to foster. As many of you know, her surgery was December 1st. the surgery was a success (as of her last appointment when they allowed the cone to come off). We quickly fell in love with her and became "failed foster parents".…

Today marks the day we have had Sophie for four weeks. She has her next follow up appointment on Monday. Hopefully, she will recieve a bill of good health, and freedom from the cone and "rest". She's pretty sick of being lazy. See, after cataract surgery, dogs must "lay low" for a week. No chew toys. No toys at all! No running. No leash around the neck. Minimal public places. We have been instructed to thread the leash under the tummy and around one front leg to maintain control of her while…

As many of you know, my husband and I decided to foster Sophie for Second Chance Rescue. She is our first foster dog. Last night, my husband and I talked for hours about this wonderful experience we have had.
See, she has been through alot, escpecially taking in to account the fact she could not see much. She had lived for her whole life in one home and was well taken care of there to my knowledge. Due to difficult life circumstances, the owner had to surrender her to a humaine…
