Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Since my last blog post, Lacey has gotten big, and I mean really big. I don't know when this happened. I guess we don't notice as much being with her every day but our friends and family were shocked when they saw her again on Easter. Some of them have only seen her pictures, while others met her the first weekend we brought her home (about three weeks ago.) On Friday, Lacey had her second vet appointment with Dr. Amy. When she hopped on the scale, I thought it was broken. They even double checked the weight for me, but our little Lacey now weighs 13.6 lbs. That means that in 3 weeks time, she has gained over 5 pounds. I asked the vet if this was normal and she said it definitely is - her tummy isn't bloated and she isn't getting chunky or anything. She's getting taller and I swear most of her weight is in her enormous paws. With her newly grown height, she is now trying to master the stairs, but they still scare her a bit. She still can't jump on the couch yet, but she is trying to everyday.
My question is, do we think Lacey will actually be 45-50 lbs like the breeder said? Our vet is thinking she is going to be quite a bit larger. I'm interested to see if we bought a polar bear or not lol Her next appointment isn't for another 3 weeks, so I guess we will see how much she weighs as that appointment gets closer. I am tempted to buy a home scale just to see. I can't wait to see what she is like as an adult.
She might just be going through a growth spurt earlier than expected and may even out - either way, polar bear or not, every day with her is amazing. She is getting so much better with everything. She is doing really well with her commands - so far, "come," "sit" and "paw" and her newest one "kisses". Ever since we've started doing the "kisses" one, she has seemed to get much better with her nippiness. I'm sure this will get worse as those adult teeth start to come in, but at least we are working on enforcing licks instead of teeth. Her 8:00-9:00pm zoomy hour has also been alot better in the past week. I think getting her in the car and taking her places has really helped; not to mention with me on spring break, she has alot more time to play. It will be interesting to see how she does next week with me back in school.
Crate training is going fine - she's still not "loving" her "den" but at least she isn't crying going into the crate or in the middle of the night. She even managed to sleep until 6:45 a.m. on Saturday - a whole 20 minutes longer than usual! lol. We have also been doing great with potty training. Still no accidents! Its been about 2 weeks (knock on wood) and she's doing awesome. She is getting really good at telling us when she needs to go out, but we are still monitoring her water intake as well as taking her out about every 2 1/2 - 3 hours. If she sleeps for a while we take her out just in case.
On Easter, Lacey got to meet many more family members and got to play with kids (which she did awesome with)! Over the weekend she was exposed to quite a few more environments, including my mom's house, which has much more room for her. Lacey was in heaven. At each house, she seemed very relaxed. No accidents or nipping. We brought her toys and she played with everyone. She did sneak off to get some small naps in, but she didn't get much sleep because of everyone wanting to see her. I feel bad, but I think it was a rewarding experience for her. She seemed to have a blast. Needless to say, she is still quite exhausted from such an exciting weekend. She spent practically all of her Monday napping on and off, with a few play sessions. I'm sure she will be her playful self again tomorrow now that she has been able to catch up on some naps :)
Here are some pictures from our first Easter with Lacey

She is a Cutie!
I wanted Trixie to be a Polar bear. She is the 2nd smallest from her litter.
At 7.5 wks she was 10#. at 10.5 wks she was 12.8#. At her 1st check up our vet said she would be about 45#...I was hoping he was way off..
At 16 wks which some say is the Predictable weight she was 23.5#,
which would project her full weight at 47-57#
She topped out at 50# (shes 3 years)
What a beautiful puppy! :) My Reese was 10 pounds at 7 weeks old. He was 18.6 pounds at 12 weeks. He is now 31 pounds at 18 weeks. I am sure he has put on another 5 pounds since then. He will be 5 months old on the 30th ... this Wednesday. His parent's were 70 plus pounds. He was a medium sized pup of a litter of 10.
Reese is tall and lean. He was 38 inches tall on his hind legs two weeks ago. Lol!
Wow- I was shocked when I saw Lacey's updated pictures. She is a big girl!! This got me curious as our breeder predicted that Mulligan would be between 18-23 lbs, but he is still just a teeny little thing weighing in at 6 lbs at 10 weeks. I did some online calulators using golden retrievers, toy poodles, miniture poodles, maltese, sheepdog and other breeds (they didn't have mini goldendoodle as a breed choice, go figure!). Our Mulligan was estimated online as only being 13 lbs full grown. We'll see! It shall be interesting.
She's adorable.
Georgia was 13.5 pounds at 9 weeks.
Check out the weight update thread...here is the link to Georgia's section. I've been trying to keep up with it monthly now.

My breeder estimated Georgia to be about 45-50 lbs. But at 7 months tomorrow she is at 44 lbs.
She only gained 3.2 lbs last month which makes me wonder if she's slowing down and maybe coming to her final weight a little early, or just taking a break from growing so much.
I can't count the number of times people commented on her large paws.
She could be just catching up now that she is getting her own food at your house and not sharing with litter mates--the key is to wait until she is 20 weeks old, and her weight then is APPROXIMATELY half of her adult weight--but could be off by 5 pounds or so. She looks bigger than my 45 pound doodle did at that age--and I bt she will be 50-55 pounds--she sure is cute and it sounds like she handled all the Easter fun really well for a young pup.
Great pictures - Lacey is so so so adorable! I just checked Ellie's 16 week weight and she was 23.5 lbs, so doubling that plus the 5-10 would 52-57 lbs, that's about right where she is. (Er, well, once she loses the few pounds of winter "fluff" and gets back to 55, lol.) I feel like she's really tall and skinny, and even though she's heavier than the 45-50 estimate - she's not as huge as I thought 55 lbs would be. Eloise recently got her summer cut, too, which makes her look ridiculously skinny. She's pretty light on her feet, too. I would guess Lacey will be near the same size...it will be fun to watch her progress and see how big she ends up growing. :)
Sweet puppy! Sweet family! I think she'll grow to be more than 50 lbs.
She is adorable. I love the last photo of your family.
Between 8-12 weeks the weight needs to double. It slows down a lot from there.
So, if you brought home a 10 lb doodle, it should be 20 lbs in four weeks.
I'm thinking 2-3 lbs per week of gain up until about 6 months then it will slow down a little. Be sure to check the weight at 16 weeks because that will be your best guess. Double the 16 week weight and then add up to 10 lbs. That will give you a ballpark weight. Some end up more, some less, but it is a good guess.
