My dogs were in the yard when I began to wonder what they were making such a commotion about. I stepped out to find a friend of mine who'd popped in to visit us so we could meet his Weimaraner. So this Weim is 'sorta' his dog. He and his wife rent a place that doesn't allow dogs but he's always wanted a Weim so he's 'adopted' Jake who lives with someone he knows. He borrows Jake every other day and takes him for runs, hikes, hunting, etc.
Jake spent the first 2 years of his life in a cage and while I'm not sure of the exact rescue story, he's now a happy dog =) Amazingly there's nothing in his personality that would indicate he's had a sheltered life. He's not timid of people or other dogs, cheerful, bonded really well with this friend of mine. Very cool dog! Before I got into doodles, I was very interested in a weim. But, thankfully, I didn't get one as their energy level is far above mine =)
I get that labradoodle came from labrador and loping off the or and adding the oodle from poodle. But how does goldendoodle make any more sense than weimardoodle? Shouldn't it be goldenoodle-- haha.
Actually there's a couple folks who breed them (don't get the purpose though) and they are called weimardoodles. I sure wish other poo mixes wouldn't use the suffix 'doodle' unless it makes sense in the name combo.
I should add that AFTER I told Clark I blogged about this he reminded me that Jake took a while to learn how to be a dog and to show interest in people. He wasn't scared...but just kind of like an alien thrown onto planet earth. Just didn't know what to do, how to play, etc. Since our friend's main interaction with him is when he gets to go out and about...and get trained, Jake has been super eager to learn and regards his outings/training very highly. He's bonded wonderfully with him. And he came up to me too to see who I was but hasn't really been 'into' people...not afraid or stand offish...just only loves his new 'master.'
