We had the boys at the Vet today which is always a real fun time...they love it there (really). The Vet was with us for quite a while, and most of that time she was playing, hugging, and kissing them (yes, that's why they love it). She made a comment that made me laugh and got me thinking. She said "these guys are so different....Murphy is like the big, goofy Jock, and Guinness is like the little Nerd". She's absolutely right...she "nailed it".
Guinness is so serious about EVERYTHING. He is a worrier and a thinker (if dogs are even capable of that). He's a creature of habit, and loves his schedule...he gets "unnerved" when things change. Murph doesn't appear to worry about a thing...if he could walk around "whistling" he would. The only schedule he cares about is his "feeding schedule", and heaven forbid that I'm late with his meal. Murph loves being near his "Mommy", and he gets so nervous if Guinness ventures off to "explore"...he'll actually "herd him back (aka body block) to me. This is a pretty new thing...it used to be Guinness who wouldn't leave my sight. Murph is big and clumsy, and so slow, and yes he sometimes falls down just walking. Guinness can always outrun him...he'll get to the ball first, but then Murph will just take it away from him. Murph always looks to his brother to know how he should react to a strange noise. If Guinness barks, Murph barks..and then he runs to me for protection leaving his brother by the door to fight the bad guy. Murph is a total wimp when it comes to anything that even MIGHT be uncomfortable...Guinness is stoic. I can't even describe the drama when Murph has to have his temperature taken. Murph is incredibly strong, and I don't even think he himself realizes how strong he is. He can send me flying just by bumping into me...of
course, he doesn't mean it. I'm so glad we were able to train him never
to jump, because he really could knock an adult over if he wanted to. Guinness...not so much. Anyway, it really is fun having a Jock and a Nerd. What amazes me is that they get along really well (most of the time), and they seem to just love playing together. Now if I could just stop Murphy from sitting on Guinness and Guinness from "humping" Murph (you'd have to see it to believe it and no I WON'T tape it), it would be just perfect.

I think you should use this idea for Halloween costumes... he he. I love that their personalities are so different and compliment each other... it's just perfect!

Nope, if they went to a bar, Guinness would order a Guinness and Murph would order a Murphy's Irish Ale. And then each would want the other's. LOL
I love them both...they are the perfect combination! Lucky you, Jane, between your two boys, you have just about every doodle characteristic there is!

It also sounds like if Guiness and Murphy went to a bar, Guiness would order a Scotch and water and Murph would order a pint of draft beer!

Both scenarios are really funny, when you picture big Murphy sitting one little Guinness, and little Guinness humping big Murphy.

I wish Shelby could meet Guinness and Murphy.... I bet they would become friends quickly! Love this post about their personalities....

Jane I have that "humping problem" evety time I walk Oliver and bring him inside. My 14 yr old Rennie waits his turn to go out, and Oliver will immediately jump him, it drives me nuts, I don't know what to do about it, It is a good thing that my Rennie doesn't seem to mind, but he is getting older and his back and hips are not what they were and I am afraid that Oliver will hurt him. I have tried every known command, and it does no good. So now I just put the leash quickly on Rennie and push Oliver off him and then we go out...Do u have any ideas about this????
