It's been a week since dear Ember has been home!  I am just so excited that she is here.

There have been lots of good things:

- usually sleeping well during the night without whining (most nights have been asleep by 11 and waking up at 6:30 am with no get-ups...except the past two nights)

- meeting the other dogs in my family

- 'sit' command is going really well, even without a treat. ('down' has to be motivated by a treat, but she's learning)

- super social and excited about people

- getting better about biting with me (still need to work with others though)

- she is so stinkin' cute!

- settles down pretty quickly when I put in her in her crate during the day. I need to work more on this because I will be going back to work in a week.

Some sad/frustrating things:

- two nights ago Ember got diarrhea in her crate in the middle of the night. her digestion hasn't been the same since... I just feel awful about it and don't know what the problem is. For the past two days she has been eating well, is super lively, drinks plenty of water... but hasn't pooped during the day at all. Last night she pooped a TON and then was up every two hours to go out and poop again (turned to diarrhea in the middle of the night). :(

- my patio area where we spend a lot of time outside is all gravel and these little rocks have become Ember's favorite thing. She's good about letting me take them from her, but I realllllly wish she wouldn't pick them up at all! I bring out toys and am engaging with her, but she's always going back to the rocks.

- a couple potty accidents in the house, but we're working on it.

Even though I'm definitely exhausted after the past two nights of poop issues, I am so happy she is in my life! SUCH a sweetheart.

Hi Jen!!

Just some thoughts--

My Riley loves to chew rocks too when she goes outside.... dont know why, but Ive heard that its not really hurting her so oh well.

As mentioned before... has she been tested for parasites? Have you taken her for her first wellness checkup at the vets? Riley was having tons of diahhrea when we got her and when I took her to the vet a few days later, I found out she had a horrible case of parasites : ( She is all cleared up and now and is having solid poops!!

P.s. She is soooo cute!!

OMD!  That picture of her on her back makes me want to go through my computer monitor & snuggle with her.  She is ABSOLUTELY adorable!  That fluffy face is to die for!  ok...I'm trying to refocus...sorry...can't concentrate well when I'm looking at a dog so cute...Anyway, what food are you feeding?  Did you say?  I can't remember.  I'm assuming she's still on breeder's food, right?  Was she tested yet for parasites?  As for the rocks, you're preaching to the choir!  I've seen many frustrated posters (me included) about rocks, sticks, etc.  I got to the point where I always was taking Bex out on a leash (you may be doing that already, I don't know) because at least I could grab fast.  I was scared to death he'd choke on something outside.  Maybe spray a few closeby with Bitter Apple or something & maybe she'll then assume all the rocks taste bad.  Also, she is very young right now, but eventually, you'll be training her LEAVE IT and DROP IT which helps too.  Probably no real cure for it other than supervision though.  If you find a miracle cure for eating things outside, be sure to share!
