My parents are now proud Doodle parents. I had mentioned that my parents had been won over by my Doodles in my previous blog. They lost their mini-Schnauzer at least a year ago and finally this last month have been talking about how much the miss the company, which they realized after having Veruca stay with them for a week during our vacation.
After ups and downs, holding their breath, thinking there wasn't a chance but hoping there was... they drove home with a new family member today. My parents stopped by our house on the way home with her so we could meet her. I gave them a baggy of treats, a few chew sticks, and two alternate leashes. As I have mentioned in the past... I have an addiction for buying leashes. It's pretty sad when I can say I gave them two brand new, never used leashes and still have several more hanging in our coat closet. Hah. She's on the large size of medium, has a few pounds she could afford to lose. Her coat has been shaved close and it has this beautiful silvery grey. It reminds me of liquid mercury.. darker version, like a blue grey that you might see in horses. Very unusual pretty color. Her foster Mom said that it's not visible when her coat gets longer. We're curious to see how she looks with a shaggier look.
Apparently, she was a surrender due to medical issues with the owner, she was obviously loved. I have a lot of respect for the previous owner.. making a tough choice to rehome her loved dog while the dog was still young and would have a good chance of finding family to love her quickly - she is under 2 years old. Also, making sure the dog was taken care of ... I don't know her previous owners story, but seeing this sweet dog.. I am assuming you would HAVE to have less time left on earth or serious medical issues to part with her.
My Dad walked home with her from my house -- and she was attached to him. It's pretty funny.. since the DRC and previous owner said she doesn't care for men. She adores my Dad. She had her head in his lap, loving on him minutes after arriving at their house. She follows him around. She paced the house when he had to go out to run some errands. My Dad has that charm, I'm sure you've seen it before, the guy that grumbles and complains that he hates cats - so every cat - even the most stand-offish cat in the world - LOVES him. That is my Dad. My Dad will grumble and complain about my dogs, and it's hard to take seriously when he's petting Veruca the entire time. He's a closet animal lover, and the animals know it.
My parents feel like they hit the lottery. She's incredibly loving and to say she's adjusting well would be an understatement. She settled in and was home. My Mom and I went out today and loaded up on toys, chew toys, and then also purchased some Taste of the Wild food for her to gradually switch to (she is on Science Diet). (We thought it would be a good idea to switch her for many reasons, and actually decided to move to the same food I just put my girls on. That way if one of us is ever running low on food - we have it covered. Or if/when we dog sit there is no worry of what food they need. I only live a few blocks from my parents, so chances are the dogs will get some visiting in.)
I'll get some pictures up when I have a chance.
This weekend is definitely making up for last week.
It's very late, off to bed. Just wanted to share the good news. I hope this made sense.. I'm tired and my mind is just rambling on through the days events. :)
