Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
As most of you know by now, I went to Portland, OR, to see my daughter and son-in-law. A few weeks back I told Megan I would like to let a couple of people from DK know I was coming and all hell broke loose. Most of my family and friends just don’t get it when I talk about my “friends” on DoodleKisses and all Megan could see was that I was making my first journey out to see her since she moved away and the first thing I mentioned was meeting “those Doodle people.” She might have added an adjective or two, but we will just let that go for now. If truth be told, I could have traveled up to Seattle and Walla Walla and down to California too, but we only had five days and I did not think she would go for Doodle Meet ups all over the western coast, so I kept my visit to a member who lives right there in the same area as Megan, Pat and Traveler.
I had been in communication with Pat and plans got changed a couple of times, but we finally agreed to meet at a park in Portland. Now, some of you might remember that Pat called me out right on DoodleKisses when I took a picture of a FROG and she let it be known that she thought it was a TOAD.
Tell me this is not a FROG??

This whole incident became known as Toadgate in our household and I walked around for days saying, “Who does she think she is trying to make me look stupid on DoodleKisses? F or somebody??” Well, I like to think of myself as a forgiving person, but I have to say I think Pat was still holding a bit of a grudge. Why else would she have given me crappy sketchy useless directions that made no sense? Meet her at some park, near some steps, near some pond......we almost had to stop a Labradoodle we saw named Joe to see if he could give us better directions. Aimlessly, we walked around the park going, “where in the heck is that toad/frog know-it-all Pat?” Megan and I had to call her twice for further directions and we got a little worried when she said she could see us, but we couldn’t see her. I have heard of something called gigging frogs and I was hoping Pat didn’t jump out of some bush with a spear and yell, “you fell right into my trap, you stupid misidentifier of frogs and toads!”
As it turns out, none of this happened, and we turned around to see Pat and Traveler coming up the walkway and they looked happy to see us. Pat has a wonderful dry sense of humor (I am hoping it continues) and Traveler was a gorgeous, unique color, and a very sweet boy. I had warned Megan ahead of time not to ask if Trav was silver, because then we would have another whole debacle when Pat said, “I beg your pardon! I see you take after your mother and don't know your colors any better than she knows frogs and toads. Traveler is lavender/violet/purple or something,“ and then I might have to break up a fight when Megan said back, “I can assure you I am not as dumb as my mother and I do not appreciate the comparison, you Doodle person you?” I would have hated to title my blog, Doodle Meet Up Gone Bad!
Actually, I don’t usually do this, but I am exaggerating just a bit and really the visit was wonderful and Megan said, “Your Doodle friends are very nice,” when we left the park. Megan also wanted to know why she would even ask what color Traveler was in the first place, since she could see. Anyways, way to go, Pat! You made Doodle people look good and maybe next time she will get herself a Doodle and become one of us!! I brought Traveler a squeaky ball and Pat let me throw the ball for him and try and get some dog running at you with a ball in his mouth shots.
Sadly, I did not do much better with Traveler than I have ever done with Fudge. I had high hopes of delivering the calendar shot to her, but then again we all know if I took an excellent picture of Trav, I would probably wait to give it to her until after the calendar selections had been made. Pat did use words like obsessive about my ball shots, which I did not understand at all. At one point, I did mention that I was not above slapping a fellow DK’er.
We ended the visit by having Megan take some pictures of us and almost had another problem when Pat mentioned she wanted Megan to take some pictures on her own camera, since she did not trust that I wouldn’t pick pictures to post where just I looked good.
Would I do that??
I really hated that she knew me so well. Megan did get some fun shots and I told Pat to feel free to use one as her Christmas picture, but she quickly shot that idea down and just said she liked me, but not that much. WTD!
Someone is getting tired of pictures!
It really was a fun and lovely visit and so nice to meet both Pat and Traveler. It amazes me how much every Doodle is so different in looks and personality and amazed me even more that Pat could let Traveler off leash and he returned. I hope after this blog Pat will meet me again when I get back to Portland. Pat, If it is any consolation, I only tease the ones I really like!

PJ, That makes me so mad....LOL! I would have loved to meet you and the famous Zach from the great cartoons.
Camilla, I know....checking them off right and left. Hmmmmm....I wonder who is next :) Thank you!
F, It took you long enough to comment on my last line :) Thank you! Yes, I think everyone has my number. LOL
Pam, Thank you!!
OMD another member off the list! I think you should go on a cross country trip and visit as many DK members as possible. It would make a great ongoing discussion!
I can't tell if I'm more jealous of you meeting Pat and Traveler, or of Pat and Traveler meeting you... :-)
Your last line just proves how much you love.......me : ) Great photos at least the ones Megan took. And I guess Pat has, well we all have your number, so to speak Laurie, after 10, 309 blogs and countless other postings : ) But we love you too. And your DK poop bag quest continues and we stay at homes love to read about it.
Loved reading about the fun meet up...full of laughs that I needed
Carol, LOL....this is all perfectly innocent :) No campaign YET!
Awww....another great "meet up" story! I'm getting very suspicious Laurie.....are you by any chance Campaigning for some something? Head of National Doodle Affairs? I know there's more to these cross country Meet Ups.....it all looks a little froggie fishy to me!
Pat, I have a very hard time letting things go :) LOL Now that I have heard the back story behind your sad toad/frog obsession, I guess I could let it go........could, but probably won't :) I don't understand your "patience of a saint," comment......do I need to do another discussion? LOL
Karen, Thank you! Pat was fun!!
Awwww....thanks, Karen! It's true that I frequently have the patience of a saint. lol
