Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So DH and I were getting ready for work this morning, just chatting away with Taquito and Peri (seriously talking to them) and he asks me "Are we crazy? Do you think we talk to our dogs too much? Do other people do this?". I just laughed and said I am sure other people do and he agreed.

But really, how often do you talk to your dogs? Are we over the top because we don't have human children yet? Will this all change?

A typical morning convo with Lady Peri & Tacky goes like this:

Me: Morning Lady Peri - are you excited to go outside today?

Peri: yawwwn....stretch.....sigh.....

Me: Oh Taquito it's a hard life for you - you're just a little guy in a big world - ready to go outside?

Tacky: comes out from under the covers, yawns and grins...

Me: You're the best dogs in the whole world.

DH: Yes you are - we ruv you! Let's go outside choodle...

Peri and Tacky: run to front door together full of smiles.

Seriously, this happens more often than it doesn't. I can't believe I am admitting it! Then again I guess no one is "normal" - at least we love our dogs and are good "parents". Hehe.

Doodles are the best listeners! I talk to mine all the time, but my family thinks I am nuts whether I did this or not:)

Sometimes I feel guilty because I've been busy, bad mood, whatever and I haven't talked to them enough. They don't seem to mind. I do love the way they'll tilt their heads as if to understand me.

I am with everyone on this one. I definitely talk to Allie and DH does as well. A conversation comes to mind from last night. We were telling her what a pretty girl she is. She loves that one. DH and I then had a conversation about the fact that Allie really IS the best looking dog EVER (sorry everyone else, but Allie would win ANY contest in my book). Totally normal, Allyson. Allie and I both agree!!

If you are crazy than I certainly am! DH and I talk to Darwin, rewrite popular songs for him, and put words in his mouth. Example, if DH and I disagree on something the conversation will go like this "Well Darwin says your crazy and that I am right." the reply "Actually, Darwin told me that he is completely on my side"

Also, we've become those crazy people who point out dumb stuff to each other about Darwin like "look, he's watching an ant!!!" um, yeah. Nobody cares but us... ha ha

I have conversations with Achilles all the time. Sometimes I think he is the only one who understands me.

Carol that is SO funny about your DH because the same thing has happened to mine!!! I swear he is under some kind of doodle spell!!! He baby talkies her, holds her on his lap and sings to her, puts her HOT PINK sweater on and walks her around the neighborhood!!! I've never seen him like this in the thousand years that we have been married!!! What is it about doodles???

I love talking to Banjo and can carry on quite a conversation with him....what totally floors me is DH! I never would have guessed that he would get all baby talkie with a dog! I've seen a whole new side of my guy!

I talk a lot to Guinness because when I do he stares at me and "cocks his head". It's so darn cute....I love it. It doesn't matter what I'm saying....he always listens attentively. Hmm, maybe he could teach my DH how to do that...never mind, it's too late. Murph could actually care less...he just wants me to be throwing a ball.

What???? You mean there are people who DON'T talk to their dogs????? We talk to her, sing to her and ask her what her opinion is when we have to make a decision about something. I don't know what we would do without her advice!!! :)

I talk to Phoebe constantly as all my children are in school full-day right now. Honestly, I think some days Phoebe wishes I would just be quiet!
