just got back from taking rudie to the assisted living home here. we went in the memory care unit. they loved him. rudie did really well. everyone wanted to pet him. of course he loved all the attention. i hope i can take him back. (just took my mother there to stay). really sad.

I am so sorry about your mother. We always think our parents are the ultimate authority and when that changes, it is very hard to accept. It is wonderful that you could take Rudie to visit.

Time will help the adjustment for you and your Mom. This is normal for them to ask to go home. It will fade in time. It is hard. Been there with my Mother-in-law and just moved my Mom to an assisted living apartment. Taking you dog to see her is a great idea. We do the same thing when we can.

I think while it is difficult to have her stay there, it makes it easier to enjoy each other this way.....
( easier said than do....) It is nice that you are close by.

thanks everyone. my mother has dementia. she stayed with me for over a month. it is not easy. she is better off where she is at. i hope that she will like it better. it's hard going to visit & they tell you they want to go home. the assisted living home is walking distand from my house. rudie, corbin & i just got back from walking there & we all went walking around the place. my mother takes corbin.(he is smaller) thanks rudie & theresa

My gramma loves seeing us come with Neely. She gets asked about him when we're not there and gets more interactive with the other residents instead of just walking back to her room everyone stops for a chat when he's there.

My Dad was in a nursing home, it was very difficult to take care of him anymore at home. I had my Rottie Magic at the time and everybody loved when I took her to visit. She would help with my dad when he would get in a foul mood by nudging him and making him get up to play with her, than he would take his meds and get cleaned up and coffee...it was great to see how happy all the residents would be when she was there. Dogs can do such wonders for some people...understand how you feel with your Mom, it's never an easy choice.
