Attention Former Couch Potatoes and Human Paperweights

I would love to hear how welcoming a doodle into your life has positively impacted your exercise regimen. I am walking daily and doing some light stretching, for instance, so that I can be ready to meet my soon-to-be-born doodle's exercise needs. How has having a doodle helped you? What do you do exercise-wise that you didn't do before? Let's help one another! ;)
Hugs, Kathy

My pup's birth is now less than (?) a week away. I am off-the-charts excited! Can't wait until she is old enough to walk in the local harbor and take just about everywhere with me.

Todd, been thinking about your comment about walking three dogs and I have a GREAT idea for you! ;) Wear a very strong belt and hook one of the leashes to the belt. Great idea, huh?! :D

Hi Kathy, Come join us at the Exercise Group. There we share ideas on exercising our doodles and ourlselves. It's a great idea to get ready for your new addidion. Your activity level is sure to increase in the weeks and months to come. As with humans, puppies need to start slow and build gradually into a regular routine. Excercising together will be great for both of you!

GREAT input everybody! Seeings as I currently live in Southern California, there is rarely a day where the weather is so foul that I can't go outside. I, therefore, have ZERO excuses! :D I have been walking about a mile the past two days and feel better already, plus, as self-absorbed as I can get at times, I've never neglected my animals. I even bought a car that accomodates a dog better than the one I originally had in mind. (I wanted a Toyota Tacoma but ended up buying a Toyota Highlander). It will be easy to jump in the car and head for the dog park, beach, etc.

I didn't do any exercise before Yankee came along. I started walking him every day at the dog park for about an hour. I lost weight and it's great. Now I have to wait for Finn to be ready so I can start walking every day again. It doesn't matter how cold it is, I bundle up and off I go.

Since we got our doodle last October, I have taken him out for a long walk EVERY MORNING. (Welll, except for when we had ice!) I have always wanted to take a daily walk, but could always find excuses. This summer we moved our walk from the neighborhood to the park. Now we walk up and down hills and all around the park for a total of 45 minutes. (other family members walk Bodi in the afternoon and evening) These long walks have helped to control my diabetes. I actually don't mind getting up early every day!!

I love to go to the gym and workout. I still do this, BUT I also walk Peri in the morning for 20 minutes and at night for 30-45 minutes (even if it was my workout night). Also a lunchtime walk if it is my day to come home. I tried on jeans last night that were snug last year and they are loose...YES!
