Beemer Update - Week 4 - Good Report and Second Surgery

We have all made it to the end of week four with Beemer's left hip surgery....but now we must do his second hip.
The follow-up x-ray showed that his left hip is healing very well....that combined with his muscle tone, allowed the doctor to do the second surgery yesterday. Beemer was again an excellent candidate for the same surgery (TPO) on his right hip, which made us happy because the success rate is so great. The right hip was adjusted by 40%, as was the left hip....so his gate should be perfect and by June he should be able to do some running again.

We began the day with some quiet time and Beemer got his massage, then cleaned with some lavender scented wipes (he is not allowed a groomer at this time), and lastly a quick brush. He still hates riding in the vehicle (would you blame him?)...so I had to make it very comfortable for him. He is so sweet that he rode the whole way with his paws crossed in my hand.... We got to the hospital and Beemer made a friend, Baily, a terrier...so hopefully they will have crates side by side.....then the nurse came for him...he is such a trusting soul that he just walked off with her.

This has been a difficult process to watch Beemer go through....but we are very confident that in order for him to live a pain free life...we owed it to him.

He will be coming home today...late this afternoon....so we have fluffed and folded all his favorite blankets.....put clean sheets on his bed and made a spot for Daddy (as Daddy will still be sleeping with him in the x-pen!).

We would like to thank those on DoodleKisses that have offered their support....without it ...we would have felt very alone.....hug and kisses.....Mike, Penny, Comiskey and Beemer

Sending hugs, kisses, and get well wishes your way, Beemer! Hang in there. I'm so happy that it looks like he'll make a full recovery. Maybe he'll be up for a doodle romp later this summer.

I hate for you and Beemer to have to go through this twice. Our Springer had CCL surgery last summer and the recovery was so hard. I can't imagine going through it twice let alone in such a short time.

Beemer is definitely lucky to have you! Marley and Lizzie are sending doodle good wishes his way for a quick and full recovery! And hey Beemer, since both hips are done, there's none left to do!

Sounds like all is going as smoothly as possible thanks to you and the docs. I hope this second round goes just as well the first. Looking forward to the news that Beemer is running!

Thinking of you and wishing Beemer a speedy recovery. I hope things go as well as the last one. I'm sure when this is over Beemer will be happy to sleep in Daddy's bed with him to keep him company. =)
