Beemer Update - Week 4 - Good Report and Second Surgery

We have all made it to the end of week four with Beemer's left hip surgery....but now we must do his second hip.
The follow-up x-ray showed that his left hip is healing very well....that combined with his muscle tone, allowed the doctor to do the second surgery yesterday. Beemer was again an excellent candidate for the same surgery (TPO) on his right hip, which made us happy because the success rate is so great. The right hip was adjusted by 40%, as was the left hip....so his gate should be perfect and by June he should be able to do some running again.

We began the day with some quiet time and Beemer got his massage, then cleaned with some lavender scented wipes (he is not allowed a groomer at this time), and lastly a quick brush. He still hates riding in the vehicle (would you blame him?)...so I had to make it very comfortable for him. He is so sweet that he rode the whole way with his paws crossed in my hand.... We got to the hospital and Beemer made a friend, Baily, a terrier...so hopefully they will have crates side by side.....then the nurse came for him...he is such a trusting soul that he just walked off with her.

This has been a difficult process to watch Beemer go through....but we are very confident that in order for him to live a pain free life...we owed it to him.

He will be coming home today...late this afternoon....so we have fluffed and folded all his favorite blankets.....put clean sheets on his bed and made a spot for Daddy (as Daddy will still be sleeping with him in the x-pen!).

We would like to thank those on DoodleKisses that have offered their support....without it ...we would have felt very alone.....hug and kisses.....Mike, Penny, Comiskey and Beemer

I'm so glad the second surgery was successful and the prognosis is so good. From here on out, every day will be a little bit better than the day before. You and Mike are the Doodle Parents of the Year, and I know all of this will be worth it the first time you see Beemer run again. May the time fly by until that day!
Jackdoodle & I are sending all our love & support to all four of you.

Obviously the hospital staff must have made his last experience positive for him to be so comfortable going off with them. That is a very good feeling for you. It would be so much worse if he resisted I'm sure. You have done a great job through all this, and I can just picture my 6'2" hubby sleeping right along side our doodle if this were us. They are great buddies, I'm sure. Wishes and prayers for speedy recovery.
And I second the massage for DH!!!!

I wish you (and Beemer of course) didn't have to go throught this, but I am confident it will be completely worth it in the end. The day you see him run will be one of you happiest moments I bet!
What a great doodle family! Give Beemer a big kiss from all of us at DK when he gets home. Peri has her little paws crossed for a speedy recovery.

Oh how your hearts must have been breaking watching him walk down that hallway! It wretches mine and my eyes teared up...How blessed Beemer is to have you two for such caring and loving parents! His rapid and successful recovery is a testament to all the love and care you two are giving him! Maybe "dad" will need a massage after all the x-pen sleeping!! Wishing Beemer a speedy recovery : )

I'm really speechless at this point with what to say other than you guys are doing an amazing job holding up for Mr. Beemer. One day soon it will all be behind you and you can be thankful each and every day that Beemer has a better life! We will keep each of you in our thoughts and prayers until this whole process is behind you!

I'm so sad that you and Beemer have to go through all this again...it breaks my heart to think of it. I do know that it will be all worth it, and you will be giving Beemer the chance to live a healthy, pain free Doodle life. I think I've said it before, but I have great respect for you and your DH for how you've handled this. You are amazing Doodle parents! I will be thinking of you and hoping that everything goes well with the surgery.
