Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Many of you mention in posts you are thinking of adding another doodle to your pack. Have you ever thought about adoption? This girl is listed on DRC but her pictures just do not do her justice.

Meet Hailey. She is an 8 month old black goldendoodle, 50lbs and growing. Right now she is on the skinny side but after eating 10lbs of food the first week in my home, she has me convinced she is growing! Her coat is full of whispy curls, glossy and black that is non-shedding with hints of bronze ticking. Her former owners had a poodle and it appears they tried to groom her into a poodle also. This is growing out. She may look poodley but just on her nose. She acts so silly and doodley.

She walked right into my home and jumped with playful joy. She is actually easier to deal with than Spud—don’t tell him I said this about him.

She is having a tough time getting applications for her because she is a black dog. Read the link below about black dogs in shelters and why they have such a hard time being placed. In Hailey’s situation it may be because her foster mom can’t photograph her beauty. They are the first to be euthanized and the last to be adopted.

Hailey seemed to be taken very good care of when she was a puppy. She was spayed and kept up-to-dates on shots but I think she was thrown outside when she became a teenage doodle that was too much to handle. She is poorly potty trained and is being bell-trained now. My vet said she was on a horrible diet and now needs a good lamb and rice diet. She appears to be allergic to chicken and beef but has no problems eating tons of Lamb and Rice. She is doing great with all the food—as I mentioned above. She is super smart (don’t tell Spud but she is way smarter than he is ). In just one week with a great diet and an EPO
capsule added to her diet to soften her skin, her coat shines as much as her
personality. Hailey shows no signs of the baggage that some rescues display. She is one happy puppy who loves people, food, and doodles. About the only thing I can tell is wrong with her is at one time her tail was broken and mended slightly bent. But aren't we all slightly bent :)

If you are interested in Hailey or even thinking about adding another doodle please contact me on my page or apply for her at DRC.

I am posting this on DK because I really would like her to go to someone who has a doodle to be her companion. Another dog keeps her interested and out of trouble. She needs some obiedence training but in the week I have had her this will be easy for her to do. She enjoys training and tries very hard to please. She was cat tested and passed. I have no idea how. She lived with 4 cats and was cat tested at the shelter, but in my home she flunked miserably. She likes to bite cat tails so I do not recommend cats that fight back. She would be okay with kids who are a little older as she is the best little jumper. This is one smart girl who is going to make some family a lucky doodle owner.

Thank you, Joanne, Spud, and F. Hailey.

Hailey was micro-chipped, heart worm tested, and re-vetted Thursday and will not need to return to the vet for any immunizations until next September.

Hi Joanne, we so wish we lived a little closer, we would take miss Hailey in a hearbeat. We're keeping our eye out for a young doodle girl to bring home. Our Ruckus (also a black doodle) is 10 months old, exudes doole energy, and would love an active little sister to play with. If you don't find someone locally, please let us know and perhaps we can work out to be interviewed by a Denver area rescue. I hope she finds her forever home very soon!

My daughter's lab is black and she gets creepy comments about him all of the time - and he is sitting there with his tongue hanging out and tail wagging. Go figure!

I wouldn't call it a black DOODLE stigma...just a black DOG stigma. I'm not saying it makes sense for dogs, but I think it's a somewhat natural prejudice to be afraid of DARK things. Kids are afraid of the dark. Goth is dark. Crows are black. Black and darkness usually are what are used to depict scary and frightening things. Darth vadar wears all black.

Whereas heaven, happiness, and other 'nice' safe things are depicted in by white and light and brightness. Angels are depicted in white, doves are white, sunny bright days, etc.

SO in general I think it's a natural human bias to be leary of things all black...somehow they seem scarier.
But again, common sense would tell us that animals aren't more aggressive or harmful or scary by virtue of coat color. Yet someone I know saw a photo of Thule on FB and immediately thought she looked scary. Weird since she was the most friendly, people lover of all my dogs.

ps Dudes literally has a right angle on the end of his tail. Acquired before I had him, its like a coat hanger, I reckon someone bought him, took him home got his tail trapped in the car door and then returned him to the breeder, it only adds to his quirkiness. >I see the black recue is female and that will work fine too.

If she were a boy I would have renamed her Elvis. Seriously. She has shinny black slicked up hair.

Personally I LOVE black. When I was growing up two of my favorite stuffed toys were a black poodle and a white one. You are right they are harder to photograph, but you did capture lots of Hailey's beauty. Wish I wanted a big dood, wish I COULD have another right now.

Hailey is ADORABLE! She and Spud look like Salt and Pepper! I do not understand the stigma of black doggies in rescue...we've always adopted black dogs so it just seems silly to me. Sounds like Ms Hailey is going to have some fantastic homing options ahead of her!

I'd take her in a minute if she were cat-friendly.
