Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am a little shy about blogging but I also want to share my stories so here goes nothing...
It has been exactly 3 weeks since we brought our wonderful boy Brisco home in case you didn't know he is a 10 month old black goldendoodle. We knew pretty quickly that he was now where he was suppose to be. I'm not going to lie though I was nervous, he was a BIG puppy and a rehome, already having 2 owners before us. This is what I know: his first owner received him for a Christmas gift last year. I was told that they kept him on a lead outside in the backyard most of the time. They also sprayed him with the water hose for baths which must have been pretty traumatic because his 2nd owner asked me to not try and bath him with a hose. (That doesn't mean I was going to anyway she just asked me not to in advance). He was with his first owners for about 4 months and then came his 2nd. She took him bc the first underestimated how much work a puppy was and wasn't willing to do the work. His 2nd caregivers on the other hand where really nice people. She loved this dog very much and took great care of him. Her and her bf decided to split ways and she had to move out by the end of the month. That combined with a 2 yr old son, apartment hunting and an 8 yr old dog was really overwhelming. That lead to the search for Brisco a new family- us!
J wasn't as excited as our son and I, honestly he was doing it for us, he said as much. It kinda went something like this. This is your dog, your responsibility. I'm not dealing with taking him out, cleaning up poo or walks. And I don't want him on the furniture.
This was his initial attitude. Safe to say that he has fallen in love with Brisco to. He actually says to me a few days ago (while there napping on the sectional) that he would have paid triple what we paid for him, which means A LOT coming from him.
I read somewhere (I will post the link when I find it), that when bringing in a rehomed pet to take the first few weeks slow. Here's a few things that were helpful for me.
We are still figuring each other out Brisco and I, but I hope he can tell that we already love him. I tell him everyday. I will continue to post about our journey and what I've learned, my family has learned along the way.
