Car Accident Today But We Are Okay

I just wanted to share today that I have been neglectful on putting Bentley's seatbelt on since he hated it. Bentley's Dad didn't like the way he pulled himself to get away from it so we just didn't use it. Today I was going to take Bentley to Goldengardens dog park and then to lunch at a restaurant that lets you take your dog. I don't know why just decided he needed to get over it and learn to just wear it. Today was the day so I bucked him in and praised him for sitting nicely. We passed two accidents on the freeway. I got off the freeway and we were rear ended really hard!! A man was looking at his daughter in the backseat and boom!! It happened so fast and I had my seat belt on but still hit the steering wheel. I could see Bentley fly but only as far as the seatbelt let him. We were hit so hard he would have flown thru the windshield. We are okay but I had to go home and hug him and cry. We didn't go to the park and I am sore already. I was really shaken up by this and wanted to share. I can't imagine if I would have lost Bentley since I love him so much!! That little voice or gut feeling is always right.

What a scare!! It's always good to trust your instincts, and we are so glad you did..lesson learned!! I am really bad for letting Lilly in the car without a seatbelt. Thanks for sharing, maybe it will save another doodle from getting hurt.

So glad that little voice spoke! I'm so glad that you are both ok! Thank you so much for reminding everyone that they need to buckle up those doodles every time they get in the car. It is a pain, but things like this remind us it is so worth it. Also, per comment below, please do not buckle them to their collar (you are correct, it would snap their neck). It has to be a harness type seat belt. And also, unless they are large, not in the front seat. I get so tired of buckling the girls in, particularly when we are running errands and getting in and out of the car. However, that little voice always talks to me when I start to not do it! Hugs to you both!

What an absolutely terrifying experience. This is such a great reminder to me. I need to always have the Doods harnessed in or crated even if I'm just going up the street to the park. I'm so happy nobody was seriously hurt...although you may be sore for a few days.

Oh, Sheila has her own harnass that I could attach to the belt. I wonder if that would work better.

Oh how scary! Thank heavens both of you are allright. I'm so glad you both had seatbelts on. I have a car seat for Sheila, but I attach her by the neck into a boxlike thing. I wonder if it would break her neck? Gosh what a scary thought. I wish it had a harnass in it. My DH was also wondering if dogs would trigger an airbag, which would kill my 8 lb. little girl. I'm so glad you posted this.

Jodi, I am so glad you both are both ok. Is your car 'dead?'

OMG so glad to hear you are both ok (though sore). Seatbelts sure do save lives.
