Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Tonight DH and I started Canine Good Citizen classes with Penny Scott Fox in Pasadena. Roo and Tigger are 32 months and 24 months respectively. They both have basic obedience. I have been waiting for her to offer a CGC class on some day other than a Tuesday so I am very excited. Neither of the dogs were embarassed by us so I guess we did okay. Although I will say that the puggle and the bichon were much quieter. Tigger and Roo had a lot more fun though. Practice, practice, practice now. Roo's main goal will be to learn to stay sitting when approached by people. He is positive everyone is eager to catch a fifty pound doodle in their arms and then receive a thorough tongue bath. Tigger's focus will be to "come" all the time, not just when it is convenient. So far only 5 dogs in class which is great for all of us. The last four weeks a few TDI (Therapy Dog International) will join us. Twelve tests to CGC, but you can't fail you just NMT (need more training).

We just finished with this--Chervil was most challenged by the supervised separation and the meet and greet, but lots of practice and she learned to do both very well. Have fun! This was the class that really moved my dog into the category of "wonderful companion." I can now take her so many places and enjoy her even more, because she has such good manners.

Sitting for petting was so hard for Guinness too. Our Doodles love greeting new people, so it seems against their nature to sit quietly when some new (fun) person comes to meet them. He eventually "got it" though. The other thing that was difficult with Guinness on CGC was "no treats for the test". He was very treat motivated during training, so when we started practicing for the test and I couldn't use treats, he was not a happy Doodle. Have fun...I loved CGC and Guinness got so much out of it.
