We have had 2 great days in a row with our little crazy. We have been training training training. Today, though, I bought a clicker. Ok, let me just say...FUN. Not only is it tre fun to click, but it produced awesome results with ADD boy! I think he actually loves it as much as I do.

When my husband came home tonight, I felt like "Crazy Dog Lady" as I like to call it...treats in pocket, clicker in hand, leash tied to my belt, and feeling over-all a bit gross from doing so much dog time. So dorky, but this dog lady got to show off the progress we had made today to Daddy. I would say there is hope for you yet my little fuzz ball. Now I just need to get a clicker for our daughter and life will be nearly perfect! xo

I totally agree. I was resistant to try clicker training...saw it as just another step, but finally tried it and really like it. We are using it with Chewie to correct some resource guarding and so far, very good results. It's so much easier to click and then treat as opposed to getting them the treat in that very small window of time. Seems like I was always getting it stuck in my pocket or something. LOL.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I don't know why I didn't think of Cheerios, what a great idea...and we always have them around for our little one. I will give the Pet Botanics and catswell a try too when he needs a little more motivation. I am so amazed at how Piper responds to the clicker..I guess I am doing something right with it, as it has eliminated his jumping up (so far) and helped with stay and some of the fun tricks I was having trouble teaching. Luv luv it.

When some friends puppy sat for us, they clicker trained him a bit. I like the idea to use it for 'trick' training. That might be the best use for a clicker around here. As far as treats, I like liver treats, but those are larger too. I bought a new bag of treats at Petsmart and Ruger loves them! They are called Training Reward by Pet Botanics. They are soft and bite sized (like cat treats). 20oz for $7-$8. The bag says it contains over 500 treats.

It takes Wilson a long time to chomp on a treat too..so now I'm using Cheerios...work great! ( he also likes the cats treats which are small!)

Jane, I was wondering the same thing! It takes too long for Piper to chew a piece of kibble, so that doesn't work. I was wondering what people use for treats that are healthy and tiny! I just used tiny pieces of bread--almost a crumb. Even with that, he was basically getting a meal in treats--but it was working soo well, I wanted to keep going! I am totally new to clicker training, but watched a couple of videos online and gave it a try. I definitely want to keep learning more about it.

I use clicker training for teaching tricks, and it really is fun! The problem I have is that you're supposed to always click and treat. This adds up to lots of treats, and that bothers Guinness's stomach. I find I have to limit his clicker training just because of the treat issue. I tried treating with his food, but that just doesn't work with him...he wants the "good stuff". How do you get around this?

great story tellin'...
The clicker is awesome - they seem to "get it" so much faster with a clicker.
If a clicker for your daughter would make life nearly perfect - what would make it totally perfect - one for the hubby too??? heehee Life should be so simple! (did I say that?????)

That's Great Chelsea. I love the idea, but geesh did I confuse my dog--I am so uncoordinated. So let me just give YOU Adda Girl :)
