Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I have officially gone Doodle-Crazy. We brought home Sugar Doodle on Christmas Eve and I am obsessed with her. My latest doodle daydreams have started me thinking that Sugar needs a red-headed sissy. I already have a name - Scarlet Doodle. Isn't that presh - Sugar & Scarlet.
Well today i clicked on our breeder's website and just like i had put an order in she has a batch of new doodles and there is one red female.
My husband and kids are going to kill me! Since Sugar was my Christmas present I think Scarlet would be a good Valentines present.
What's a Doodle owner to do? I already feel like she's mine. I know hubs is going to say No way jose. WAAAAHHHHH!

Same thing happened to me! I fell in love with my Murphy and not long after started dreaming of his red-headed brother. I am very happy that I waited till Murphy was one and a half before bringing our precious red head home though. I say heck yes get another but I also say wait till you have had Sugar Doodle for a little while. Training is much harder with two, nice to get one trained before you have to start on the second. Just my opinion.
Same thing happened to me I only had Marabelle for 2 months when I requested another from my breeder. I used to be a cat person, now I'm all about the doodle hahahah. Love them both so much.

I can easily see how you've caught the doodle bug - Sugar is adorable! I do think it's too early though to consider another dog - take time to bond with Sugar, get her trained and through the craziness of puppyhood.... then if it's right for you and your family - you'll have a young, but trained doodle mentor for a new pup!
How exciting!! Are you ready??? We have 2 a year apart. It's all a personal choice and I wish you luck with whatever you (and your family) decide. Congrats on Sugar-simply adorable!!!
Oh yeah... its real eazy to become doodle crazy.... I got Sasha and then decided to get Oliver, I always had two dogs. Having one dog just does not seem right for me. Getting Oliver was the best thing I ever did and of course Sasha was extremely happy too :) Sasha was 9 months old when I got Ollie, I wanted her to still be young when I got another dog so they could bond easily. I once got a puppy when my other dog was 6 yrs. old and the puppy drove the older dog crazy. Doodles are just so amazing.. they are like potato chips... you can't just have one :)
Since you know your husband and kids would be against getting another dog, it sounds like a real bad idea.
I know exactly how you feel. I got my first doodle and now my whole family is full of doodles. We have 2, my one sister has 2, my other sister just got her first :), and my very bestest friend has one. 6 total. And we long for one of every color :) It is def an illness, "doodle fever" we call it, but I enjoy the "fever". All kidding aside, 2 pups is hard to deal with. We got our second doodle Smudge when Magnet had just turned a yr old. It actually worked out very well for us. If I were you, wait a while. Get Sugar Doodle, totally potty trained, done teething and set in the normal schedule routine of life and understanding of her boundaries and really bonded with you and then, start on the next pup. Sometimes getting another puppy can regress some training with Sugar you've already done. Good Luck with whatever you decide :)
Oh, GOSH, do I KNOW how you feel! I absolutely LOVE the idea of Sugar & Scarlet...I can already see their names together on DK!!! I (like Jarka) wanted two puppies soooo bad at the same time, but did research too & found what she said...supposedly they bond to each other more than you and you DON'T want that! I would TRY to hold out a little while. I say this, but my Bexter is only 9 months & I am supposed to be getting my second dood this summer. Even though I am excited, there are times, though, when I get REALLY nervous as to whether it is a good idea or not. I guess time will tell. They are SUCH a big commitment...like getting a baby!
I agree with Doris and Jarka - train and bond with Sugar first (Id say til she is about 2 years old), THEN get Scarlet!
We almost got two puppies the first time around. Fortunately, I did some internet research and found out it's not such a good idea. It said the pups would bond more together than to their humans. Plus, it would have been sooo much work. I had a constant headache for the first two weeks after we got Monty. BUT! Monty is turning 2 and I was getting the doodle-bug again. So we are on a list for a second doodle that won't be born until June. Oh boy.
