Saturday is traditionally "Donut Day" at our house. My super sweet Mother in Law, (ha ha ha, aren't you jealous? I love my MIL to pieces, she's awesome!) Anyway, since we liv in the sticks on a farm, there are no bakeries within about 13 miles of us in either direction. Once a week, the local mom and pop shop variety store/gas station, called "Pratt's Store" on 22A gets a few gazillion dozen donuts for their local patrons, and we have coffee & donuts! Hmmmm, maybe that's why I can't shake off that last 10 pounds...

Anyway, Laila felt it necessary to share her treat with the dogs, when we were sitting out on the front porch...Toby would only go after the crumbs that had fallen, but Sable, with her little untrained puppy temperament, climbed right up my little Laila and got herself a morsel or two, Laila was surprisingly fine with it. Usually she gets mad at the puppy if she paws her.

Sable tossed her cookies today for the first time, I think she just ate too fast, who knows. She held down her subsequent meals, so I think it was just a fluke thing. But the main even of the day was after playing ball with the big dogs, she ran over to get a drink of water from Toby's bowl. (It's a HUGE stainless steel bowl, she could easily fit her whole body in it), well, funny I mentioned that, because that's just about what she did! She had one paw in, then two, then was making digging motions, then splashing all around, waving her head, it was cute and hilarious! I thought it to be extremely perplexing behavior until my husband, Bob said she was just playing.

Well, it sure solved the "dirty paw" dilemma! LOL

Sounds like Sable will be a swimming doodle next summer...the girls will enjoy that. Can just imagine how much she has grown over the last week...and hope house training is going good for you.
Your home town reminds of being a kid and where we lived...friendly neighbors who helped each other and we had the little grocery store...it was called Mary's store..as kids ( 9 kids all together in my family) loved to go there every day for our after school treat and at the end of the week Mom would send us up for the tab and pay it..lol. On a Sunday after church we would have an early dinner and than in the evening it was a sandwich with some soup, but we always had fresh baked goods (the sticky buns and cream doughnuts), we watched Football and Roller Derby..lol...We were so spoiled. Hmmm "Way Back When"..lol.

Oh we don't all actually eat the donuts there, it's more of a stop by and pick up a dozen, but we do gather Sat. mornings with extended family, usually at my house, around my kitchen peninsula/bar! The store is great though, they still have a "slip" system, where if you don't have cash, they write it on a slip, you carry an account, and pay it at the end of the moth, when we first got married, I felt like I was on Little House on the Prairie! LMAO

That would have made a cute video. Puppy frolicking in the water dish.

Nancy, I want to live near that store! How cool to all come together for coffee and donuts and a gabfest!
Glad Sable is fitting in so well! (How 'bout a kiddie pool for her?) ;)
