Sable is cute as a button and slowly but surely learning some manners in Obediance classes. She was 10.5 pounds last time I weighed her and she is fully vacinated. We have a nice, long lead set up for her so she can run aroubd SAFELY when we can't go with her. She loves to play with our big labs! Yesterday while we were outside I tethered Sable to Cody! It was so cute! The big Yellow Lab acted as somewhat of an anchor to the wild and crazy puppy, classic!

Well, we just got back from obedience class # 2 and Sable did really well! Her tough points were "come close" (the heel position) and not jumping on people when they approached. She did come, sit, down, stay all very well though! I was so proud of her. She did get a little stubborn on the "come" part and stayed in the sit position, refusing to move forward, Peg, the trainer said, "That's a little bit of the poodle in her coming out." So we tried a "gentle tugging" of the lead as opposed to a…

Giardia: Well, Sable's poop was still soft, I was afraid she had worms, so I brought a poo sample with me to her last vet visit. We found out the next day that Sable had contracted Giardia, which one usually gets from drinking from stream, ponds, or any standing water, (even a puddle!) Well, I think our hiking extravaganza last weekend is the most likely culprit, oh well, I guess we'll hold off on our next hike until her stomach is a little more, how shall I say, durable? The Vet (Dr. Becky,…

Well, Sable's much anticipated debut in Obedience school was pretty fun actually! I was surprised how much she "wanted to learn" and wanted to please me, even if it was for treats! My instructor was nice, everyone was nice in fact, and inquisitive as to what breed she was. I think the class had a pretty typical slice of Americana: 2 goldens, one collie, one Doberman, and Sable! Sable was the youngest and smallest, by a month, and at least 15 pounds! But she held her own at "recess", I mean…

Sable is g-r-o-w-i-n-g! She is 9 pounds as of this morning! Wow, I can hardly believe it! She's cute, fluffy, sweet, silly, and a wee-bit naughty... This morning when Grandma Louise arrived, she commenced to hop, twirl and run about the house, bouncing off the walls! So cute...
I've noticed that Sable enjoys hopping around on her hind legs, doing what appears to be acrobatics at times! if I hold up a toy above her nose; she'll hop up, and usually hop backwards a couple steps, it's…

"Puppet" is what my 14 month old daughter Laila calls the puppy, er, I mean Sable. I guess this is proof that I need to stop referring to Sable as "The Puppy", and use her name, "Sable"... But honestly? I don't even care, because I love to hear Laila point at Sable and say "Puppet!" with a smile on her cheeky little face! She has a dimple above her lip on the right side, and it is so cute, I think it is unique, as I cant' say that I've ever seen a dimple on someone in that particular locale.…

Ok folks, I am embarrassed, I don't have a super puppy, my doodle does not sit, stay, come on command, or stop jumping when told, "Off!". Sable is sweet and cuddly, energetic and fluffy, but the pooping in the house business is driving me buggy... She even will pee and poop on my front porch if I don't go out IN the grass WITH her.... I guess I'm just having one of those days............ Oh, I gave her paws a bath last night (they were the only dirty part), and woke up this morning to a…

Almost two weeks with a puppy in the house, yahoo! Sable came with me today to run some errands in town and then to soccer practice. She's a big hit with the kids of course, but really wanted to run on the field and chase all those balls with all the kids. I think she was also curious as to why I kept blowing that horribly loud whistle...
After dinner it was time for more soccer in the yard with big brothers' Cody and Toby and Brittany and I! She likes to chase her big lab brothers…

Well, we've entered the terrible stage of jumping on the kiddos! Mostly the baby (Laila), but also anyone else who sits or lays down on the floor. She, for some reason, takes sitting or laying down as her cue to go bananas and jump and play, and search for cute little ears to tug on! Bob, my DH, said I should use the word command "Off!" So that's what I've started doing. I may have to find myself a couple "Doodle Bonkers" like another DK member mentioned! (Paper Towel rolls).
Also of…

oo7dessYesterday we took a walk with an elderly neighbor and her two papillon dogs in the field, it was so much fun! Vanessa and Sable were both chasing butterflies in the field, I felt like I was watching a Hallmark card photo shoot! Also yesterday, I put out the kiddie pool and plopped Sable in there, she was NOT impressed and swiftly got out, oh well, we'll wait till next year for swimming lessons.
Today: Today there were quite a few accidents in the house... Sable has become a…

Today after church it rained, and my 3 1/2 year old played with Sable outside for a while. The result was a filthy doodle! So I took my friend Jennifer (of Grandview's) advice, and after bathing her, I trimmed the fur under her paws, to reduce the tracking in of dirt. I also trimmed around her eyes and nose, I think it is called a "beard" in doodle world. And I used my thinning shears for that look. I'll post an "after picture" later tonight. She is so cute and fluffy!
Here is the…

Saturday is traditionally "Donut Day" at our house. My super sweet Mother in Law, (ha ha ha, aren't you jealous? I love my MIL to pieces, she's awesome!) Anyway, since we liv in the sticks on a farm, there are no bakeries within about 13 miles of us in either direction. Once a week, the local mom and pop shop variety store/gas station, called "Pratt's Store" on 22A gets a few gazillion dozen donuts for their local patrons, and we have coffee & donuts! Hmmmm, maybe that's why I can't shake…

I think I may have to switch to weekly Diary entries soon, I'm afraid I won't be able to come up with anything new and exciting to dish about! Today Sable went to the bank (in my arms of course) and got a doggie biscuit from the UPS guy, who delivered my new pair of Kenchii Thinning Shears! They look so pretty, I can't wait to make my first snip. Also of interest, I stopped by a local groomer who shares her space with a pet-supply gal (small local shop), and got some puppy-safe compressed…

Yeah! Sable has been with us for a week!!! Today she had her vet appointment. I forgot my paperwork at home...So they weren't sure about what vaccines to give her. No big, I just ran home and faxed it over, she got her shots & exam, and she is healthy! But of course I already knew that... I had fun using my new "Furminator" on my big labs outside today, Sable was awfully curious about all the "fluff" flowing around on the lawn. Sable has slept almost ALL afternoon, am I to assume it's from…

"Sable, Sable, under the table." That is what my daughters say! Sable does in fact like to snooze under the table by our feet, or under an empty chair. I love it! Today Sable came to our local elementary school with me when I had to put on my "soccer mom" hat and hand in my game schedule to the principal. Teachers and students alike ooohed and ahhhed, and fawned over my sweet Sable baby, naturally!
Yes folks, I am a real live "Soccer Mom", once thought to be going extinct...Now,…

Brittany and I arrived at the airport 10 min. late due to a GPS snafu, and ran full speed towards the Continental ticket desk, stopping only to snap a few pictures. When we got there, the clerk lifted up the crate and said I could take her out(so I did of course!) She seemed a little nervous, but let me hold and snuggle her. Once out of the airport we pulled over and gave her some water, and she peed. Then, it was home we go, almost strait home...(I simply haaaaaad to stop at the Outlet Center…

I just have to brag a bit; she has had NO accidents in the house, pottys on command outside, and slept through the night; 11:00pm-6:30am! Today she woke up a "new puppy" ; 10 times more playful and energetic. We also took her with us to Beltrami Studios; http://www.beltramistudios.com/site3/ (we had a pre-scheduled photo shoot for me and my 4 girls), Sable came along with, and she even posed! I can't wait to see the pictures! We thought she'd just play in the background or something, so…

The Night Before Sable by Nancy Sunderland (All rights reserved, please do not copy)
T'was the night before Sable, and all through the house, not a shoe was left stranded, not a toy strewn about.
The kennel lay empty, set up with such care, in hopes that a doodle pup, soon would be there.
The big girls are in school, the baby in bed, while visions of labradoodles danced in their heads.
With Daddy on the farm, and me in the kitchen. I sat down…

Today my oldest daughter Brittany and I finally took our "road trip" to visit Grandview Labradoodles, and owner/breeder (and former classmate) Jennifer Bartlett, and all her wonderful little puppies! It was so much fun, and very educational. I have to admit that I had never met a labradoodle bfore today, other than through the internet. Her dogs, of all ages and sizes were all so beautiful and sweet! One,…
