Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We go to pick up Dustin (our goldendoodle puppy) tomorrow after I get out of school so tonight will be Fenway's last night as an only doodle. She is a spoiled little princess and gets tons and tons of attention all of the time, but we've really been laying it on thick this week and she's been eating it up. Lee, my DH, is conviced that she is going to pack her bags and leave once she figures out that Dustin is staying for good and not here for just a visit. He thinks she likes being an only dog. I think she likes it too, but I also know how much she misses her buddies after they leave. She's a social girl! I think we're going to grill out tonight if the weather holds and she'll get to come with us and we'll play ball. This is her absolute favorite thing to do, especially when her Daddy hits it really far with his racket! Hopefully we can make it a special night for her, even if it is more for the humans's peace of mind.

We're getting really excited about Dustin, but we're also really nervous. I'm not sure how it's going to go with two. I know it's more work and more money and pretty much more of everything (good things included), but I'm mostly worried about how Fenway will take to him. Although she's super social, she's never had to share us with any other dog for long and she definitely has never had to share the attention before. She also only ever plays with dogs that are bigger than her. We're going to have to supervise that play very closely because she can get really rough. Hopefully all of this worrying is going to be in vain and they'll love each other from the start. Who knows??? I'll probably have my hands full for the next few days, but I'll have to post an up-date soon.

I feel your excitement.....hard to believe it was just 5 weeks ago today that Beemer came home.....Comiskey was afraid of something so small....so he chased her....by the next day...Comiskey was chasing him....and it has been uphill ever since....they play hard for about 2 hours now and then sleep for about 2 hours...they don't act like they are attached to each other...but if they get separated by the gate....Beemer just sits and waits...if we don't get Beemer out of his crate immediately upon hearing him...Comiskey comes to get us and then sits by his crate waiting.....they are so fun...and we were just commenting last nite what a great choice we made getting another doodle.....good luck....I look forward to seeing the photos....

Thanks for all of the kind words and wisdom. I'm getting more and more excited. I've got my camera ready and I leave to go get him as soon as my principal lets us go today! Can't wait. Maybe if I'm not too tired tonight I'll post some pics and maybe a video (we're going to see how the video works since it's on my digital camera I'm not sure). No promises though because I have a feeling I'm going to feel like a sleep deprived Mom for a while so I'll do what I can do!

Good Luck. Your story is exactly like mine. DH felt the same way. Dkids (older ones) felt the same way. I insisted on getting Fergie a sister. Fergie's 13 months and I brought home Lucy 2 wks ago. (She's 9 wks today). I am truly amazed how good they are doing. I think Fergie thinks this is her puppy. She does get a little ruff when we're outside but I'm pretty firm with the word "gentle" and she's getting it perfectly. This has been a wonderful decision and my husband is taking to Lucy quite nicely.
One difference I've definitely noticed is that Lucy (Lucy is Fergie's full-blood sister - just different litter) is not any where near as attaching herself to me. She seems to be much more independant. When I got Fergie she would follow me everywhere. She hated her crate, she hated to be tied outside even if I was across the yard. I loved that her about her - I mean, that she loved me so-so much.
Lucy follows Fergie all over instead of me. She doesn't mind her crate at all - after only 1 wk is sleeping in it all night. When she's tied outside Fergie stays with her so she likes that too. Fergie could leave her because it's a big yard and i have an inv.-fence so she can go anywhere but she just lays and plays with the puppy.

Good Luck. go to my page and see pic's. I'll put one in here.

I hope everything goes well with Dustin...when we brought our Fenway home 12 days ago I was very nervous how our first doodle would act...my concerns were similar to yours. I wasn't really scared that Shiloh wouldn't like Fenway, but that he wouldn't want to share our attention....but I am happy to report that things are going very well and I think they like each other more than they like us, lol. Oh and we love the Dustin name....we always planned on having a Fenway....but at the last minute we almost went with Monstah...it would have fit him just fine! Good luck and congratulations!

Good luck, Kelli! Can't wait to see pics of Dustin. I'm sure Fenway will adjust beautifully. Be sure to keep us posted - my husband and I are thinking of getting a 2nd doodle, too!

It is Dustin Pedroia! My husband is a huge New England fan and Pedroia is his favorite player on the Red Sox.
I'm trying to be optimistic, but I know that I'm going to be quite busy for some time to come. However, I'm hopeful that in a couple of days I can post some pics. I may come looking for advice from you sooner though!
Thanks Jane! I hope Fenway takes to Dustin. I'm so worried, but I'm trying to do everything the way others have had success on here. Wish I had a video camera. I could use my digital camera and see if that gives me a minute or two at least.
Jamie, I'll definitely let you know how it goes so little Wrigley and Rootie can have the benefit of our experience! Wish me luck!

You guessed it. My husband is a HUGE Cubs fan hence the name Wrigley. I told him about Fenway the first day I joined DK. I love that name too! Good luck and please keep me posted. You'll have a week's worth of advice to give me.
