I've got the first puppy grooming blues....Went to Pet Smart for trim around his face, bath, ears, etc. He hated it...cried through the whole thing. They blew him dry which made him have "big hair". My husband thought I had the wrong dog. And, he really smells like a girl wearing very cheap perfume. Looks like I'll be learning how to do this myself for the future.

I did not like Wilson's first grooming haircut for the summer either But I do now He didn't look like my Wilson, but he is so much cooler now with the warm weather. You did a great job on the grooming Congrats

Thanks. He looks perfect! I'll read all the posts and give it a try next time. I'm thinking I can just work on his face a little at a time.

There are some great videos on Goldendoodles.com. Under the grooming section. As well as asking questions on here and reading all the posts I could. I also had been a hairstylist (for humans) many years ago, so I figured it couldn;t be much different, except dogs are moving targets, but they don;t complain if you get thier "bangs" too short. HA. The picture on my profile (on left) is a few weeks ago, and the one posted with this is last night after a grooming. Not perfect, but it's the initial cut, so I wil l do a little at a time over the next day or two. Easier on both of us that way. This way I never have to worry about what he;s going to look like and I can keep his precious face just the way I know he looks best. Good luck, let me know if there is anything I can help with, but Barb is great on here. Read her posts.

Thanks! How did you learn how to do it? Was there a book or online site that helped you through it? He's looking a little better today. Playing in the wet grass got rid of the "big hair" and the perfume smell. Now I just have to wait until some of the hair grows back on his face.

Jane, I am new to grooming myself and for the two reasons you mentioned...him being upset and crying and how he's look (at least for awhile anyway). I really isn;t hard to do, and certainly has a bit of a learning curve, but he'll forgive you if you make a mistake. Having said that, now that I've groomed Murphy from head to toe about 4-5 times now, I can see why owners don;t want to do it and why the groomers get so much to do them. Takes me hours, but I do it over the course of a few days, and tweak it as I go. He loves it when i scissor cut him, lots of stroking and praises.....and some treats are involved. Give it a try, but get the equipment you need or it will be torture for both of you.

After a day all the poofyness will go away, he will look back to normal once he starts to play and bounce around. Some get the dread baldy cut because of matts...

Very few seemed pleased when they get their dogs groomed, especially the first time.

Where are the pictures???? I'll bet he looks darling. If he is too poofy, you can spray him with some water or finishing spray and scrunch his fur.
