Thanks to my DK family for letting me vent and keeping all of TN in your thoughts. I just wanted to follow up with a photo of my best friend's house and neighborhood. There are thousands of families going through this EXACT same thing right now. It is an odd feeling looking at piles of insulation and drywall outside of people's homes. My husband spent every day with them getting counters out, drywall removed, etc...

You will notice one of the photos has a tree mural in a bedroom. I had painted that for my best friend's nursery. Her baby boy is only 2 months old =( But they are rebuilding starting next week - saving receipts and hoping to God that FEMA comes through!

My friend Cassie is an avid dog lover - has 3 rescues that they were able to save from the floods. Had to get baby out first, came back and dogs were swimming in 4 feet of water!

Photos to enjoy/hate/whatever!

Thanks for sharing the photos Allyson. I heard that this was a 500-year event for the Nashville area. I too am appalled at the lack of media coverage on this. I usually watch ABC World News, but lately half the broadcast is filled with "feel good" stories. I'm continuing to keep your friends and all those affected by this flood in my prayers.

Right; I also meant the media. I heard nothing at all about the flooding in TN until I saw it in the dog forums, and I do read the paper and listen to the news every day.

Oh I think our local, state and even the Feds are doing a GREAT job at responding - I know that first hand.
I just thought the media attention was lacking - that was what my Anderson Cooper comment meant!

Please keep in mind the average safe response time for FEMA is 72 hours. There are many steps inbetween that must be met by the governor of a state before FEMA is permitted to enter. Truth--they must have permission from the locals! By law, the local government will rule their own. Same with the floods of Katrina, it comes down to local (1st), state (2nd), and fed (3rd). Funny that the feds really have NO power in an emergency until the local government "who must ask for help" is permitted to enter a region.

So Anderson Cooper and those of you who want the FEDS to stay out of your law making decisions--this will explain a lot to those who are watching these situations but don't understand why help takes so long to get there.

He said "we should have been covering this a lot sooner".
Ya think???????

Did anyone see the special on Anderson Cooper last night? He said "we should have been covering this a lot sooner". We had a last minute benefit on our local news station last night - Vince Gill and other country starts came. Raised over 1.6 million. The people of Nashville and Middle TN are pulling together. We have commercials that simply show photos of homes and Nashville under water - at the end it goes blank and says "We will get throught this together". To say it's been an emotional week is an understatement. But I have been personally affected since so many I know live in one of the hardest hit areas....

This link was posted on another forum, showing photos of the entire area including people's homes. I can't even imagine how much worse it must be for those who are actually experiencing this!

My friend in Nashville called me in tears this week. She was thankful that their house was spared but felt guilty that there is so much devastation and many of her friends have lost everything. She is a realtor and also works with the animal rescues (she has 3 dogs and 3 cats she rescued) and has a heart of gold. She has one client who lost everything in the last big hurricane in FL and who had relocated to Nashville and bought a new home from Lizzy. Now she has lost everything again. It is so sad!

So sad. It hard to believe what kind of damage a flood can do until you see pictures.
