Needed to vent with my DK family - I just left my chihuahua at the vet for a dental cleaning. I know he isn't a Doodle, but he is a very important Doodle Brother to Lady Peri (who does not understand where he is at all!).

I got him when he was 9 months and already neutered, so I have NO IDEA how he is after being put under. I am having them do bloodwork before to make sure he can handle the anesthesia. But I am freaking out about this and broke down at the vet. They told me they were going to give him a mild sedative, then looked at me and said "maybe you need one too". LOL.

Any encouraging words would be appreciated. I will know something in a few hours.

Thanks,
Allyson and Lady P

Update: Just found out my parent's dog (and mine really, since I was 16) needs to be put down tonight at 5:30. He is dying of cancer and is just getting worse. Sad day, still freaking out, now for multiple reasons.

Update 2: Bloodwork came back abnormal. That is why it is better to be safe than sorry and pay the extra $50 to test that. He has a kidney infection. He has no symptoms, so we caught it very early. He will have treatment for 1 month and then we will revisit teeth cleaning in 6 weeks. The doctor said that kidney infections develop in the bloodstream and the mouth is a big place to pick these up....tarter on the teeth makes it easier to pick up an infection. Chihuahuas have terrible problems with their teeth, so I will be getting them cleaned to avoid this in the future. Thanks for all of your thoughts. Oh and the funny thing is that Taquito has to have his urine tested again in 10 days....Peri gets her 16 week shots in 10 days. What fun for me? Double dogs at vet! That may be a pricey visit, but worth it :)

Oh, also, I am sorry to hear about the loss of your parents baby. The loss is tremendous, but I am sure they made the right choice. He isn't suffering any more. Cimmy sends doodle warm wishes.

Allyson, I am a stranger to DK these days, but I just read about Taquito. How LUCKY are you and smart to have his blood tested. To have caught the infection early!!! What a blessing. I never knew this could happen! Have a wonderful weekend with your two babies.

Allyson, my heart goes out to you and your parents. It is always hard to say goodbye to a loved four-footed family member. Mr. Jake will no longer feel pain and will slip gently into the night. It is my belief that our pets that have passed will be waiting for us when it is our time. But it is still hard to say to say until we meet again. We are here for you.

Sorry to hear about your parents dog. Tough thing to go through, been there.
Glad you did the bloodwork and Taquito will be fine. You might as well get both dogs needles on the same day and it will be over with. They can comfort each other and you!
Hugs from Yankee & Finn.

Good lesson - always check blood work. In ten days you will be busy. Give Taquito a tiny little hug from Astro.

Glad to hear everything worked its way out for you and Taquito...at least he didn't get sicker till you found out he was having other problems, and possible more of an expense to cure him. Hope he is better soon and able to have his teeth cleaned...

Allyson, I am so sorry for your BAD day. I got my last dog when I was in college. Her name was Honey and she was my baby. I adopted her from a family who did not want her anymore. So sad. She was there for me always and I loved her with all my heart. She was put down just a few years ago and it has taken me this long to decide to have another dog. My heart goes out to you as you endure this trying time. I will pray that God gives you peace. Sincerely, Leigh

Oops, I didn't mean to end my comment there. DH walked in and I got distracted. Taquito is really lucky that you caught this before he showed symptoms. I had a kidney infection once and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, I was really sick and ran a 106 fever (nearly died). I think maybe your guardian angel was with you today!

Well $50 is a bargain! I paid over $200 for Baileys bloodwork and then the cleaning /wart removal was $800 more. (I know the vet here is a horrendous ripoff but thats what you get in the remote north where there is a monopoly in each town and the general attititude is bill people according to the towns average income) Anyways I digress! The anaesthesia/cleaning went well and Bailey had nice clean teeth and felt great after that. Like a new doggy.

Sorry to hear about your parents dog. That is always soooooo hard. BTDT. :o(
