Needed to vent with my DK family - I just left my chihuahua at the vet for a dental cleaning. I know he isn't a Doodle, but he is a very important Doodle Brother to Lady Peri (who does not understand where he is at all!).

I got him when he was 9 months and already neutered, so I have NO IDEA how he is after being put under. I am having them do bloodwork before to make sure he can handle the anesthesia. But I am freaking out about this and broke down at the vet. They told me they were going to give him a mild sedative, then looked at me and said "maybe you need one too". LOL.

Any encouraging words would be appreciated. I will know something in a few hours.

Thanks,
Allyson and Lady P

Update: Just found out my parent's dog (and mine really, since I was 16) needs to be put down tonight at 5:30. He is dying of cancer and is just getting worse. Sad day, still freaking out, now for multiple reasons.

Update 2: Bloodwork came back abnormal. That is why it is better to be safe than sorry and pay the extra $50 to test that. He has a kidney infection. He has no symptoms, so we caught it very early. He will have treatment for 1 month and then we will revisit teeth cleaning in 6 weeks. The doctor said that kidney infections develop in the bloodstream and the mouth is a big place to pick these up....tarter on the teeth makes it easier to pick up an infection. Chihuahuas have terrible problems with their teeth, so I will be getting them cleaned to avoid this in the future. Thanks for all of your thoughts. Oh and the funny thing is that Taquito has to have his urine tested again in 10 days....Peri gets her 16 week shots in 10 days. What fun for me? Double dogs at vet! That may be a pricey visit, but worth it :)

Thanks for your thoughts. I just received a call from the vet and his bloodwork came back weird - they need to check his kidneys and do a urine sample. Probably no teeth cleaning today....I hope he just has an infection and nothing worse. :(

Awww, I'm sorry to hear about your parent's dog!

I'm sure Taquito will be fine and everything will turn out just right :) Yesterday I was in a crummy mood and just playing and hugging Ellie helped a lot :) Lady Peri can make everything all beter!

Wow, you are having a lousy day. I'm so sorry about Mr. Jake, that is the hardest and I think one of the most loving things we do for our babies. My heart goes out to you and your parents, Allyson.

Oh Allyson, Tequito will be a-okay. It is so important to have their teeth cleaned. Signing that paperwork at the vet is the hardest thing ever. I hate it! Tequito might be loopy when you pick him up so don't be alarmed if he is not so steady on his feet. By tomorrow morning he will be good as new.

Oh Allyson, I'm sure that Taquito will be just fine. Try to relax, spend some fun one-on-one time with Lady Peri, and before you know it, the vet will call and say that everything is good! Hugs from me to you!

Okay they still haven't put him under. My parents just had their dog checked by the vet and asked about Taquito while they were there. To make my nerves worse, mom and dad are putting down their dog today. He is dying of cancer. We have had him since I was 16. I am picking Taquito up (God willing) tonight, then dropping by mom and dad's to say goodbye to Mr. Jake before he goes to Rainbow Ridge.

glitter-graphics.com They are like our kids and we think of them the same way when something needs to be medically done....
