Some of you may already know that Charlie has been a very reactive girl ever since she was a little puppy. We had gone through years of obedience training with her but she continue to be very fearful and reactive towards anyone, anything and any dogs she does not know what or who it is.
She had an injury in the beginning of the summer, and I began taking her to this holistic vet about an hour away for this injury. The doctor was wonderful, and we began discussing about her reactiveness as well. As a result, I put her on medication for anxiety. Today, we re-visited the doctor for her injury, and while waiting in the exam room, one of the vet assistant brought in a clean bath towel for her so the she can lay on it rather than laying on the cold floor. I thought it was nice of her to do that. Charlie did great with the doctor and with the new assistant she never met before. She allowed the new assistant to hold her, and even gave the doctor some kisses. ( We had to muzzled her before since she did not know them, was in pain and growled at them)
After everything was done, the doctor told me that the assistant had sprayed the towel with D.A.P!! ( Dog Appeasing Pheromone ) I remember this assistant saw me keep her away from other people in the waiting room.
She has been on the medication for a little over a month, and this is the 4th visit to this vet, so she could have been comfortable without this little support. But, this small gesture to make her visit as comfortable and pleasant as possible touched me....

Glad to hear you have found a good vet for Charlie. Seeing what others say about the floor at the vet's reminds me of what many people say about hospitals - it's the worst place to be when you are sick. Luckily, I have spent very little time in hospitals or vet's offices.
She called me yesterday as a follow up call to seem how she was, too..... Such a caring people....
If there is anyone on Western PA, I definitely recommend them!! http://www.beaveranimalclinic.com/Holistic_Treatments_Beaver_Animal...
Kyoko, I am so glad that Charlie is having success with her new treatments. This vet really seems to understand her needs. Kisses - wonderful! You must be on cloud nine!
This is such an encouraging story, Kyoko. Thank you for posting. I am thrilled to hear that medication is having a positive effect on Charlie and that she is being cared for by such kind people.
So glad to hear Charlie is feeling more comfortable! It really is nice to meet someone with that little extra that makes such a difference. Keep on being well, Charlie!
Thank you, all. She is on 20mg of fluoxetine. I was very nervous about putting er on the medicaiton, but I am glad I did. Over the course of 4 years, I think I got used to how she is, and forgot how it could be.
Don't get me wrong. I love my regular vet, and we have been going there ever since we got Butter, so 18 years or so, I guess. But, when she got injured, I took her to this holistic vet for second opinion, as well as possible rehabiitation. ( They have massage therapy, acupunctures, etc!) And I am glad that I did. My regular vet has never seen the reactive side of her, so he would never thought to discuss about the meds with me. ( Charlie has been going there for 4 years since she was a puppy, and stayed there overnight when she got spayed. So, she has no problem with this vet, just as she s fine with her groomer..) The little act of kindness goes a long long way and make a big difference in someone's life....
I'm so happy for you and Charlie. What a wonderful vet!
