Happy Birthday to Me

Today is my first birthday! Its been fun growing up thus far, and my mom said that today, for my birthday, I will get special presents and treats.  She wasn't even very grumpy when I woke her up early, eager to begin my special day.

 

 

My human mom thought she wanted a puppy that would grow up to be about 30 lbs.  She wanted a non-shedding doodle, a doodle that was not too shy and yet not the alpha of the litter either. And yes, she wanted a female.

 

But she got me--a curly headed, rambunctious little boy.  I weigh 18 pounds on my one-year birthday.  Mom calls me her “big guy.”

 

I’ll always remember the day mom selected me.  She immediately picked up my big sister, who was almost twice my size, and I thought for sure that Sis would be selected.  But then she played with each of us, one pup at a time, and when she finished she came back for me!  I raced around the yard--tail up and ears flying--and licked her face and she took me home.

 

Before we left for my new home, she let my siblings lick and chew a stuffed toy she called “snuggle puppy” so that I could carry their scents home with me.  I still sleep with snuggle puppy every night and sometimes sneak in a cuddle during the day.

 

After my birthday breakfast, Mom showed me her special present--a little wading pool!  At first I was disappointed because mom knows I am afraid of pool water.  But we have already invented a new game called "Save the Rubber Chicken," and I’ll do almost anything to make sure that my rubber chicken is out of danger!

I love being me, especially on my birthday!  Big sloppy doodle kisses to all of my DK friends.

Happy Birthday, Chance! You are such a star on DK...cute as can be and smart, smart, smart! I'm so happy your mom celebrated you big time. That pools sounds like fun.  I hope you enjoy it the rest of the summer.

Thanks, everyone!  I had a great day, but I am all tuckered out from having to save the rubber chicken at least a thousand times.  I've managed to do this without getting completely in the pool.  I make ripples in the water with a paw, and eventually the chicken floats close enough to the edge for me to rescue it.
