Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
My daughter was visiting a friend night before last when she noticed this little dog hiding under the porch. The poor puppy had paint, poo, and burrs all over his coat. She took him home for the night and then to the vet the next morning to see if he was chipped -he wasn't.
Then she went to the do-it-yourself dog wash where she washes her lab, and tried to wash this little guy. She couldn't get him clean so she wrapped him in a towel and asked the groomer there to wash him and clip the fur around his face. She certainly felt sticker shock when she found out how much that set her back! But just look how cute he is - all 10 pounds 11 ounces of him.
My daughter and her lab miss our last foster so much that she is considering keeping this little guy. So she went back to the vet today and so he could have a check-up and shots. He is healthy, unneutered, has a hernia which can be fixed when he is neutered. The vet estimates he is a 6 - 8 month old Lhasa Apso/poodle mix.
She put posters up in the area where he was found and she got an obviously bogus call from someone who just wanted a free 'designer dog.'
I know how much she misses Sunny (now Sundance), because she saw him through 2 months of Kennel Cough, neutering, infection, housebreaking. But I really hope she finds a great home for this little guy - tentatively named Samson. She is not really in a position to have a second dog - either financially or time-wise, but I know if she keeps him, she will make it work for both dogs, unlike so many who dump their dogs in shelters because it becomes a bit 'hard' to work out.

Your daughter's story reminds me of how my daughter adopted her little Yorkie Jack - found him on the street, filthy, starving, unchipped, unneutered, a literal mess! She took him home "for a night or two" until she could find the owner. Rebecca, who was in graduate school at the time, already had a dog and really couldn't afford a second one, but I knew that no one had "lost" this puppy; he was abandoned (probably because he wash' t housebroken yet) and no one was going to respond to her "lost dog" posters. Jack's been part of the family ever since!
Bet your daughter keeps him!
Lucy and Sophie's Mom, I agree. Out there all alone and so tiny.
On another note, may I add, if I heard or saw something moving under a porch well I might just scream! Skunk, Groundhog, Possum come to mind and I would have run. Ah, No Fear of the young :)
Samson is a doll and what a wonderful daughter you have to take him in!
