Okay, I am a first time doodle owner and my Cally went in for her first grooming today and I was horrified when I picked her up. I only took her in for a sanitary cut and asked them not to touch her face....not only did they touch her face...they shaved it! I specifically told them she is a doodle to and they gave her a poodle face! Needless to say I am finding a new groomer. They also completely shaved her rear end.... The poor girl is even embarrassed, at least she acts like it.

It really is unfortunate because the groomer was at my vet and I love my vet, they are amazing but I will not be taking Cally back to that groomer

Will post pictures soon!

I am so thankful that I only took Cally in for a sanitary cut. Because had I taken her in for a full grooming and she had been shaved I would have been furious! I'm just thankful she is only three months and did not need a full grooming! The plus side of this whole thing is that she shaved her rear and her face so much that she will not need a grooming for a while, that way I can really do my research about groomers and see what out there.

I never would of thought to take pictures in! Great advice. I guess we can blame it on miscommunication and me being a first time doodle owner and a first time owner of a dog who needed to go to the groomer.

As they say this too shall pass or should I say this hair too shall grow:)

Thanks every one. Thank goodness hair grows!

I remember the first time Duncan had his first "big dog" groom and they shaved the bridge if his nose. I know some doodle owners want that but I did NOT. So now I tell them all the time not to shave his nose (even though it's always the same groomer and I'm sure she knows by now but she humors me).

You will find someone you love once you are both ready to get back up on the horse, but it can take a little time. Cally is cute no matter what :).

Many, many doodle owners have experienced the same sense of horror when he or she has gone to pick up their once fluffy doodle, and left with a shaved dog. The great news is that the hair does grow back, but you feel pretty tense until you find a groomer that you trust. Ask other doodle owners the name of the groomer that they use and always give pictures of the type of doodle cut that you want to the groomer. Our groomer keeps a file on each of our dogs. She writes down the type of shampoo that was used on each dog, pictures of how we want each dog cut, etc. Cally is adorable, and in time will be your fluffy doodle once again!!!!!

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience today. I had Bailey groomed for the first time as well today. I actually had an appointment at one place and then cancelled it and went to a different one because I wasn't comfortable with the first one. I brought in pictures of what I liked and what I didn't like. They trimmed her face, her paws her tummy and gave her a sanitary cut. I'm lucky they listened. Thankfully Cally's hair will grow back and she is sooo cute!!

why don't these groomers get it?  doodles are everywhere now & I'm sure most doodle people want their dogs to look like a doodle.  Baker had his face shaved once & I was speechless…I just paid & left & never went back.

her whole back end was shaved ???  did the groomer keep making mistakes until the whole rear was bald ???  it will grow back in no time :)  she's still your sweet Cally...

I'm so sorry this happened. You could try giving the groomer a photo of a doodle who's got a haircut that you like. This might help next time! I'm sure she's still a cutie!

So sorry!   There are 'standard' cuts for breeds and doodles are popular enough that groomers should know the 'standard' or typical doodle look, unless you ask for something different - like a shaved face.
