Really, it is 98 degrees at the annual Ridgewood parade. Great parade, great town great bands etc... I look over my shoulder and someone standing watching the parade has her dog. Don't get me wrong, I love when dogs are out among people. But not today. It was toooo hot for any of us. I feel sorry for this pup. She does not have him in the shade. I look back over and he is taking turns lifting his feet. Oh My God, the ground is probably twice as hot! I could not help myself, I had to say something. I went over and I told her that I noticed that her adorable pup was very uncomfortable, and that he was burning his paws. She looked at me like I had two heads and walked away. On the black street, which was prob. more hot then the sidewalk. Why don't people think?

That poor doggie! I'm glad you said something. There may not have been a good reaction but perhaps she will think before having her dog out on the pavement next time (or she's just a moron)

Poor pup! The roads can get extremely hot... I hope the dog's paws didn't get too burned.

Good idea about the mt but luckily I had a doggy door put in the screen porch so the dogs don't have to wait.

F, my mom has a new, composite deck, too, and I agree that it is scorching. We have to put a towel or mat up by the sliding door, or Halas will burn his little paws when he stands there waiting to get inside. On a hot day, he can only keep his paws on it for a couple of seconds without having to lift it up. Running across it is fine, but standing on it is clearly uncomfortable. I couldn't sit on it or keep my bare feet or hands on it for more than a few seconds either. It seems like it has to be in the 90s before that happens. But it did remind me that the pavement can be hot, too, and besides their doodle paws, their whole bodies are close to the ground, which can't be comfortable.

Anna, I'm glad you said something. She may have walked away from you, but at least that got her dog on the move instead of standing there on the hot pavement.

Excellent point and you did try to help. I notice if I step on the composite deck in my bare feet it is scorching. Poor doodle. Isn't this weather beastly--today is already unbearable!

Where is the Dog Police when you need them??? That was abuse at it's finest! All she needed to do was to take her shoes off and see if she could walk or stand on the cement or asphalt. That is the test!
