A true Hero

I hope everyone could say a prayer for our veterans. My father a world war two Vet. died Sunday May 18th. He was a two time bronze medal earning for bravery in action. He was my every day hero. A great father, grand father and great grand father. I will miss him dearly. I have no idea what to do with my time now. I was caring for him with my siblings 24/7 for some time now.

A long time coming!

So I checked my page today and noticed that I am A Hopeless Doodle Addict at last! I have been on DK for more than two years now, but am more of a comment person than a blog person, not like Laurie some people. I was so excited to see that I finally have the honor of being HDA.  All kidding aside this place has been a source of knowledge thanks to some wonderful people. A source of comfort when going through hard times. And last but not…

Wow! Sandy

Hey everyone! Just got power back. It was a doozy. We were soooo lucky! My town is a mess but some how we personally escaped damage. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I am sure that is why I am so blessed.

Everything is tied down. trees are blowing. just waiting for it to hit. We are next to a brook. So stress is high. Did everything we could to prevent damage. Waiting, waiting! hard to tell what will happen. Think positive thoughts…

As I mentioned before two of my sons wrote a musical. There high school drama teacher submitted it to the New York Musical festival. Out of 400 musicals 30 were chosen. The Two Month Rule was one of the 30. Needless to say we have been busy. My husband who is very handy created and built the set the boys were a whirlwind of rehearsals rewrites etc... The show was for three days in July the 13th, 14th and 15th. Well do to their tenasity doing promotional events in city they sold out all three…

I Can't Believe It's Been Two Years!

This morning  while I was folding laundry my mind started wandering, no big news there. I started to think about how long I have been on DK. I feel like I actually know many of you well. I talk about some of you all the time (all good) in my daily life. On Yappy hour last night a few of us mentioned how our DH's knew names of people and doodles like they were family. They have asked about so and so when things have gone wrong. My husband checked in to see if Guiness was feeling better. My…

Best Christmas Gift!

For those of you who know me I had a little health blip starting a year ago. It was right before Christmas last year that my Dr. started to think there was something wrong with me after a routine blood test. I wont go into all the details however they found that I had leukemia. Went through Chemo and doing very well in remission as of June 8th. Dec. 7th  was my 6 month check up at Sloan Kettering. Needless to say the week leading up to that I was a nervous wreck. Well, I am still in…

A strange sound

On Tuesday of last week my son Nolan came home for the first time since he went away to college. We were so excited. He is Achilles' favorite brother. So he did his whistle (the one he used to call Achilles since he was a puppy) from outside. Achilles went crazy when he heard it. He looked out the window and saw Nolan. He made the most amazing sound I have ever heard. It was a guttural sound that I have never heard before. It was the most beautiful moment I have ever witnessed.

It has…

I give her a 10!

As many of you know I have three sons. 22, soon to be 20 and 18. Needless to say there have been a few girlfriends over the years. I usually get very close to them and I am the one who cries when the relationship ends. I even felt so bad once I secretly met with one for lunch a couple of times because I got so close to her. My oldest son met a new girl in the late winter that I hadn't met for awhile (he was away at school) . In asking him about her he revealed she didn't like dogs. Wait did I… Continue

Too Much Excitment For One Doodle

This is Achilles, I am writing to complain. The world is not revolving around me right now and I am displeased. Oh I know this is all happy stuff, I can feel it in the air but come on who is the most important one? Me Right? Started in May with My oldest brother graduating from college.Everyone was running around, Mom was yelling for everyone to hurry up.  No one was home all day!!!. My aunt had to come and let me out. Then the middle brother had showcases at his acting school, not one day (…

Forgive me for bragging!

Tonight I am going to my youngest son's high school to watch his last musical as a high school student. He and his best friend are the male leads. I am a bit sad, he has had such a great experience. However I am filled with such pride. Their director asked my middle son to write the play (He has written plays for the school before, while he was a student, for small events but never the spring musical). My youngest the senior wrote all the lyrics and his best friend… Continue

Remission!!!

Thank you, thank you thank you!!! All of you here on DK have been so wonderful and supportive over the past two months.

It was so nice that even though I have never met any of you, you were there for me. Having leukemia is not something anyone could say is lucky however since I learned I have it, I have realized how truly lucky and blessed I am.

My appointment at Sloan Kettering yesterday went very well. The Dr. said that all of my numbers are in the normal range. I can go back…

Wishing for a chemo buddy

I start chemo today for leukemia. I am blessed with a great family and wonderful friends that have all rallied around me. However, I really wish I could bring Achilles with me. He would not be a problem. Ok so he might want to great everyone there (who doesn't want a big doodle kiss?) He hardly ever barks and basically would be glued to my side. So what's the prob. They should make a place where you could go with your pets if they were a great comfort. Maybe we could collectively make that… Continue

These Dood are awesome!

I have had some strange health problems and Achilles has been there for me. I have had some white blood cell problems and had to go for a bone marrow biopsy. Not fun! Very stress producing. Achilles has been glued to my side for a week. About the time I have been nervous. He was there every time I needed a hug etc... I love my dood. Today after the procedure he was such a snuggle bug on the coach. I was very sore and he was very comforting. I feel so lucky to have him.

Does your doodle have a very heavy head?

In my house whenever you look at Achilles, he is always leaning/resting his head on something. It could be the coffee table a cushion your leg etc... We always joke when we see him. Is your head to heavy to hold up Killy? When I think back to the other dogs that I have had over the years Houdini, a labradoodle also had a heavy head. My German short hair pointer and my german shepard not so much that I can recall. Does your doodle have a heavy head too?

You are not going to believe this!

Achilles is 1 year and 4 months, he has not had an accident in the house since he was 3 months old. He was very easy to train. We set up our artificial Christmas tree last week. He was not interested in it at all. My son and I are opening my gifts from my class this evening and Achilles lifts his leg and pees on the tree. WTD!!! I was in shock. Its a fake tree, it doesn't have any smell at all. Any thoughts or ideas on why this might have happened?

DK WITHDRAWAL

About a week ago, my computer crashed (Big Sigh). I had no free time to do research etc. to get one quickly. So I have been without my daily DK fix. I didn't realize how much I count on all your stories and information to get me through the day. It is what I do when I get home from teaching 23 kindergarten children to relax me. I can now get my daily DK fix, I am so happy to be back! Thank you all for being part of my therapy.

I could have lost him!

Last night my husband and I are sitting in our parlor having a cocktail. My husband notices that Achilles is not in my lap ( where he usually is) . He gets up to check on him, and says the back door is open. My son had taken Achilles out and then went upstairs. The door did not close when he came in. Achilles is not in the house. PANIC! We ran outside and there my baby was in his pen digging up a root. Thank god he loves this fenced in area that we play with him in. I don't know what I would… Continue

Hot Paws

Really, it is 98 degrees at the annual Ridgewood parade. Great parade, great town great bands etc... I look over my shoulder and someone standing watching the parade has her dog. Don't get me wrong, I love when dogs are out among people. But not today. It was toooo hot for any of us. I feel sorry for this pup. She does not have him in the shade. I look back over and he is taking turns lifting his feet. Oh My God, the ground is probably twice as hot! I could not help myself, I had to say… Continue

finally ready to deal with some old pictures in camera of my baby Houdini

Before I knew we had to put Houdini to sleep this summer I had taken some pictures of him. I have not been able to look at them, or develop them. I was just looking at some new pictures of Achilles and kept going to the pictures of my other boy. The only place I thought to share this traumatic event was here on DK. I know all of you would understand and appreciate it. So here is a picture of one of the loves of my life. Houdini was smart, sensitive, hysterically funny just a joy to have in my… Continue
