Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Dan came home from work tonight and he had stopped by one of our friends home. They have a black labradoodle named Max... I'm sure you remember him from a past blog post. Well, these friends of ours just recently got a little black poodle named Charlie who looks exactly like Max so of course Dan had to go see him. ANYWAYS... Tim made a comment to Dan about how big Remington was and how old he is right now. Dan told him that Remington is 6 months old and about 50 lbs. Tim then says, OMG Max was only 35 lbs at 6 months!

Now, this shocks me because Mr. Max is a huge dog... !!! I can't imagine Remington being bigger than that. It should be pretty interesting to see just how big our Remington Bear will get! Any guesses????

When Whopper was a puppy her paws definitely looked big and the first couple months she grew at a rate that we thought would put her at the high end of our expectations. Now, at 10 months, she's only 40 pounds and hasn't even gained a pound in the last month. In fact I think she probably lost weight with her major grooming. We did not expect to end up with a 40 pound standard but obviously aren't complaining as she thinks she's a lap dog. The vet said she has the poodle build which will keep her weight down even though she has long legs. I think doodle weight depends a lot on this because Whopper often played with another doodle the exact same age who appeared to be her same size but weighed 15 pounds more due to a solid build. I guess you really never know what you're going to get until they're older.

Mickey is app 28 lbs at 6 months (underweight due to PM and shelter until 4.5 months) but he is going to be huge! He paw pads are a good 3" from front to back. He is almost 20" tall to the shoulder! He may not weigh but but he makes up for it in height.

Neely was 53 at six months, a couple of weeks ago. No one beleives he is six months when I tell them. First because of his size secondly because he doesn't act all out of control like some puppies. He doesn't jump up or misbehave ....(except with me) But when he runs and plays and you see that all out puppy love in his eyes I don't know how they can't tell he's still a puppy and loves everything like its the first time!

I measure height like this: Stand next to the dog, keeping leg next to dog straight and mark where his back hits my leg...then keep my hand there while Clark measures with a ruler or tape measure to the point on my leg that my hand is at. Then you don't have to measure a wiggly dog....

Kendra, Wrigley weighs right at 50 pounds, and she'll be 6 months old next week. So she and Remington must be about the same size. When we took her to the groomer Saturday people thought we were lying when we told them she wasn't even 6 months old. Her personality is even bigger than she is!

Adina - you almost made me wet my pants I am so excited!!! I would LOVE it if Fozzy ended up at 50 pounds. It is so hard lifting a 70 pound senior dog in and out of the car I cannot tell you! Now, watch now that I am all excited, he'll put on 20 pounds this month!!

Remington is all legs... I couldn't honestly tell you exactly how tall but I can pet him without even bending over. He seems to be skin and bones to me... I would guess he would be the size of Rosco Bear too.

I don't think he'll pass 80 lbs (merely by comparing Rosco who is 80-85 lbs now and 60 lbs at 6 months). How tall is he now? Height is often what makes a dog appear BIG more than weight. A really tall thin dogs still looks BIGGER than a basset hound that weighs 70 lbs.

Rosco weighed 10 lbs for every month until he hit 8 months and then topped out at 80-85 lbs for good. He may have grown a 1/2 inch and filled out differently...but he's been steady at this weight.
