This is just one of the many road washouts that happened

on Tuesday when Hurricane Igor tore through the eastern portion of Newfoundland, there was major flooding and wind damage. Three days later and many roads are washed outt leaving many communities totally isolated. Many people are still without electricity and running water. For two days the main highway was closed due to a 60 ft wide washout. The damage and devastation is so wide spread that some areas are only accessible by boat and the Army and Navy have been called in to help with getting supplies to those who are isolated and to help with the cleanup and rebuilding of roads. Our family was very lucky and other than a few trees that came down and a power outage that lasted only 12 hrs we escaped any major damage. By the time Igor reached Newfoundland he was a category one hurricane, I can only imagine what would have happened had it been stronger. Newfoundlanders are a resilient bunch and are coming together to help each other at this difficult time. My heart breaks for those people who have lost everything. An 80 year old man was swept away by floodwaters when his driveway collapsed. To see the devastion it is amazing that the loss of life was not greater. It will take quite some time before life in Newfoundland gets back to normal but everyday brings us a little closer to that day.

I am so happy that you and your famil are ok, and I am offering a prayer for all those that have so much pain and devestation. We live in Florida and have seen what these hurricanes can do...Not a pretty sight for sure. We had 4 of them hit us in one year, one after the other. I had quite a lot of damage, but we were all safe and that us what was important. I remember standing at the head of our driveway and seeing fish swimming down our street,,and one hr later there was no water as the storm turned around and pulled the water with it, very strange, but the damage was and can be unreal. A block away from us there was a tornado that touched down during the storm, and the mess was unreal...This too will get better, it will take time, but roads and houses etc can be fixed, it is the loss of life that us the true horror from all this...Hugs to all of you

Donna & Quincy we are so glad that you and your family are safe. Sorry to hear your Province was hit so hard but it sounds as though the government is wasting no time in getting assistance to those who need it. Thanks for the update and stay safe!! Blessings to you and all who were affected by the hurricane!
